Wonderful Historical Mystery,
By Sandy Sechrest (La Crosse, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Renowned Be Thy Grave: The Murderous Miss Mooney (Hardcover)
This delightful collection of historical mystery short stories stars Carlson's creation Bridget Mooney, a 19th century actress. Bridget is a memorable character, ambitious, charming and rather amoral. She prefers her career on the stage to marriage but doesn't object to a financially secure gentleman's company. She is also rather talented in finding and keeping strayed valuables. Bridget is also not adverse to using a weapon to defend herself or avenge a friend or relative. In these stories Bridget meets with President Grant, Jesse James, Thomas Edison, and Mack Sennett among others. Meeting Bridget Mooney and hearing her first person account of her many encounters with the famous and infamous is a memorable reading experience.
