Product Description

This repair kit supplies the capacitors needed to repair the power supply board inside a Westinghouse LCM-22w2 monitor. This repair kit is for the power supply board pictured above. Please verify that the power supply board inside your LCD monitor or TV matches this power supply board before ordering!

PLEASE NOTE: You are not purchasing a power supply board, only the capacitors needed to repair it!

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors

- Flickering screen

- Screen image disappears after several seconds

- Dim screen

- Slow start

- Power LED on, but no picture

- Unusual colors and/or lines

The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.

If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.

New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.

We only use the highest quality Panasonic, Nichicon and Rubycon capacitors in our repair kits.

This Westinghouse LCM-22w2 LCD monitor repair kit contains 9 capacitors needed to repair the power supply board inside your Westinghouse LCM-22w2 LCD monitor. This kit does not include the large 400-450v capacitor, that capacitor may be purchased separately.

We only use high quality capacitors manufactured by Panasonic, Nichicon and Rubycon in our kits. We do not use CapXon capacitors.

My monitor stopped working some months ago and we came across this kit and thought what the heck, lets give it a try. At the very least it will be an interesting science project.

I looked at a number of videos online which suggested I pop the back off my monitor to verify that some of the capacitors have blown. This is good advice. You might want to check out these videos to appreciate how much elbow grease is involved with getting the backs off without breaking the unit (it takes more force than you might expect, but the plastic did not break). Upon inspection, two of the capacitors had obvious bulges indicating that they need replacement.

We ordered the kit and it arrived promptly and in good shape. I appreciate the directions that came with it and the fact that solder and other items are included. My soldering skills are minimal and I was able to get the capacitors off and replaced and re-soldered in about an hour.

It was fun doing this with my middle school aged son who was surprised (as I was) that the LCD monitor was fixable.

I note that the capacitors supplied with the kit are of higher quality that the ones used in the original unit.

My LCM-22w2 monitor had begun to show a white screen instead of powering off when the power button was pressed, it had started to whine audibly and eventually no longer responded to button presses and turned on and off consistently. I opened up the back and saw 3 swollen and 1 visibly burst capacitor, ordered this kit, and soldered in the new capacitors. The process went off without a hitch, and the provided online videos were nice to view just in case there was something tricky about the repair. Currently typing this review on the fixed monitor which no longer whines and properly responds to button presses.

(for those troubleshooting, my monitor also displayed cryptic, broken-text instead of the proper menu to select inputs, which is also now fixed.)

The display on LCD monitor would go completely white when computer went to sleep or was turned off. Because of this we would unplug the monitor when not in use and thus, when connected to computer, it continued to work for several months. However, after a while we began to have great difficulty getting the computer to recognize the monitor. Ultimately, we left the monitor powered on even though it continued to display the white screen when no computer input was applied. And then one day the monitor was dead.

So I reviewed other peoples reviews of this capacitor set and thought I would give it a try. After all were soldered in and everything reassembled, it worked. But I made a mistake on installation. After about 10-15 minutes there was a loud pop, the screen went black, and smoke arose from the monitor. I quickly went to unplug the monitor, but before I could do so, the picture on the monitor came back. I disconnected the power, dissembled the monitor and found one of the new capacitors had burst. I now realize that I had installed a 10V 1000µF capacitor where a 25V 1000µF should have been. I asked if a replacement capacitor could be sent and received and email saying, "No problem, mistakes happen. . . I'll send you both." along a few words of instruction.

I removed the two parts I had erroneously interchanged and installed the new parts and now the monitor is working like new.

It worked! I only replaced the capacitors that looked bad. My theory was that I should not disturb more than needed as tampering with things can make them worse. Especially with fine soldering on a circuit board. I replaced 2-3 capacitors, assembled, and back in business. Highly recommended as a simple solution if you are capable of some fine soldering on a circuit board. I purchased a narrow tip soldering iron for the job and it worked OK. I figured if I screwed it up, it was worth the experiment. My soldering was not perfect but it worked and continues to work. The capacitors seem to be good quality. From what I read the brands used are good, not cheap. In order to do the repair you will need to do some disassembly and reassembly of the monitor. If you are not mechanically or electrically inclined, I would say purchase a new monitor. If you like to tinker, this is definitely for you and I think worth the gamble to see if it works. It's fun either way, as an engineer would say.
