Although I agree that this book is certainly a bargain when compared to the standard textbook options that often cost 3-4 times as much, I was disappointed to find that no solutions to the exercises are provided. One must purchase ANOTHER book before the exercises in this book can really be said to be useful. I am a firm believer in immediate correction when it comes to language review and acquisition--spending time on exercises without knowing which you did wrong will only reinforce what are your misunderstandings of grammar. However, if you are willing (and able) to buy the solutions manual along with this book, then it will make a good review--though it won't be the bargain that it at first appeared.

"Repaso" is a complete review of the grammar of the Spanish language, written in a clear and engaging style. It is organized in such a way that accessing information about discreet grammar points is very easy. I head an organization (Platiquemos - Let's Talk) that teaches Spanish to adults; we have found "Repaso" to be so valuable that we are cross-referencing our own texts so that students who want or need more grammar information (we stress communication) can easily find it.

The best news about "Repaso", though, is its almost unbelievably low price. It offers more valuable information than texts with prices six, seven, or more, times higher. It is, in short, an incredible value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Repaso, Complete Review Workbook For Grammar, February 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Repaso: A Complete Review Workbook for Grammar, Communication, and Culture (Paperback)
The best I have seen to date! This thick Spanish grammar book is more advanced than most reviews (intermediate to advanced) and presents materials in a little different way, making the grammar principals easier to understand and remember. Specific areas of grammar that were "fuzzy" to me before are now much more clear! The text and exercises are definitely not boring. Don't forget to purchase the Repaso Answer Key book so you can check your answers and correct any errors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Review Book for Spanish, November 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Repaso: A Complete Review Workbook for Grammar, Communication, and Culture (Paperback)
I am a high school student who found regular Spanish not challenging and needed something to help me from losing my Spanish and enforce skills, so I was recommended Repaso from several people. I find that it is the best thing to help review. It is easy to follow and understand. Although I do find myself looking a word here and there, that is normal. I think that it may be better than most Spanish books. It has lots of exercise that will help you to learn to conjugate verbs. I just wish it had more vocab practice. Very Useful if you want to review Spanish or learn it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Text for Review and Learning!, January 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Repaso: A Complete Review Workbook for Grammar, Communication, and Culture (Paperback)
I started taking Spanish my senior year in high school, and I wished to go at a pace faster than the first year level of spanish. One of the books we used in the class was Repaso, the workbook grammar version. I found the book so thorough in its examples, and so helpful in its explanations of the grammar. It treated the rules for formation of verb tenses so well. I found that after I studied to the book for only a short while, I had full command of all the verb forms and learned many rules for predicting irregularities in verbs. I tell you that this book is an invaluable refernce tool. I learned all my spanish from this book, and turn to it whenever I have a question.

If you had Spanish in high school but it's been a while since you've used it,then this is the perfect book for you! It begins with the simple present tense then progresses to the more complicated preterite and subjunctive. At the end of the book you will find interesting cultural tidbits to enhance your experience of learning the Spanish language. Have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Very Best in Language Coaching, April 20, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Repaso: A Complete Review Workbook for Grammar, Communication, and Culture (Paperback)
This book is logical and well organized while presenting enough of a challenge to really encourage the student to progress. It is appropriate for basic and intermediate students as a primer and for advanced students as a reference. It has made all the difference in my studies.

Repaso was used as my school textbook for higher level Spanish courses in high school. Everything is great about it. The instructions are in English which makes it even more compatable. The book is able to review old concepts, but has enough to teach the little proper things about Spanish. It is a great purchase for any student that is just learning Spanish or has been taking it for many years and needs a reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Nice Tool..., April 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Repaso: A Complete Review Workbook for Grammar, Communication, and Culture (Paperback)
Let me start by saying this is a wonderful tool for practicing/remembering your Spanish Grammar. It's huge and has tons of practice problems. It explains pretty much everything (grammar related) that you are likely to need in your Spanish studies--it's very comprehensive. You would have to dig very hard into advanced material to find topics not covered here. It will keep you busy for a very long time, and it's great to go back to every once in a while for reviewing `rusty' concepts. It's one of the few Spanish learning aids that I have kept after going through it. I'm now going through it once again (several years after doing it the first time around). It also has nice cultural notes in Spanish and vocabulary lists of useful words, verbs, and other parts of speech.

This book has a separate answer booklet (sold separately). In my opinion, this is a good thing (other than the extra expense) because the book is quite thick and heavy. It's nice not to have to flip back and forth to the answers all the time. I just have the answer booklet lying off to the side. Very nice. I wish more books would do this.

A potentially useful note: As far as I can tell, the only difference between `Repaso: A Complete Review Workbook for Grammar, Communication, and Culture' and `Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice' (by Stillman/Gordon) is that former provides space to answer the questions in the book and the latter does not. The actual contents appear to be exactly the same. I am unwilling to check every page, but after spot-checking quite a number of pages (after finding the corresponding material), they are exactly the same--the explanations, the exercises, the vocabulary lists, the cultural notes, everything. Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice, of course, has a smaller page count because of the lack of `white space,' and tighter margins and typesetting. But there is no further difference that I can detect, other than the answers are in the back of Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice rather than in a separate booklet. So, if you want to do your work in the book (which is kind of handy), get this book. But if you want to do it on separate paper, get Ultimate Spanish Review and Practice.

As a Spanish 2 and 3 teacher I highly reccomend this book. I use it as a reference myself because it has great explanations and the order of the grammar structures is useful. I would reccomend getting an answer key along with the book. This is a great book to refresh your memory on grammatical structures.
I am glad I bought this book!
