Editorial Reviews

A collaboration of three period-instrument virtuosi, Repast presents vivid renditions of music of the baroque era. Each member of Repast has an active career in historical performance, and together they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the trio's programs. Repast enjoys frequent and fruitful collaborations with leading period instrument players and vocalists in order to explore the vast and varied repertoire of the baroque era. The group's name, meaning a meal or a feast, is a double-entendre: out of the revival of past music comes a delectable, spiritually nourishing experience. Founded in 2003 in New York City, Repast has performed at the Getty Center in Los Angeles; Bargemusic; the Miami Bach Festival; the Early Music Society of the Islands in Victoria, B.C.; the Museum Concerts of Rhode Island; the Times Center; Midtown Concerts; Salon/Sanctuary Concerts; and the Staller Center for the Arts in Stony Brook, New York. Since 2004, Repast has presented an annual three-concert series at the Baruch Performing Arts Center and has been featured on WKCR radio.

Violinist Amelia Roosevelt is a founding member of Repast. Described by the New York Times as a "virtuoso duelist," she performs with the Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Sinfonia New York, the Clarion Music Society, and the Carmel Bach Festival Orchestra. She has toured internationally with Musica Antiqua Cologne, Concerto Cologne, and La Cappella de' Turchini. Recording credits include Naxos, MDG, New Classical Adventure, Albany Records, Deux-Elles, Linn Records, Hanssler, Electra and Capriccio. A New York City native, Amelia holds degrees in violin performance from Stony Brook University, where she studied with Joyce Robbins and Mitchell Stern; the Manhattan School of Music; and the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam.

John Rozendaal specializes in teaching and performing stringed instrument music from the Baroque and Renaissance eras. He performs as a member of Trio Settecento and was founding Artistic Director of Chicago Baroque Ensemble, principal cellist of The City Musick and Basically Bach, and has performed with the Newberry Consort, the King's Noyse, and the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra. Rozendaal's viola da gamba playing has been praised as splendid (Chicago Tribune) and breathtaking (Sun-Times).

Avi Stein teaches harpsichord, vocal repertoire and chamber music at Yale University and is the music director at St. Matthew and St. Timothy Episcopal Church in New York. The New York Times described him as "a brilliant organ soloist" in his Carnegie Hall debut. Avi has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and Central America. He is an active continuo accompanist who has played with many ensembles such as the Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, the baroque orchestras of Los Angeles, Seattle and Indianapolis and the Warsaw, Toulouse and Indianapolis symphony orchestras. He has also conducted a variety of ensembles including the recent debut of the OperaOmnia company in a production of Monteverdi's Coronation of Poppea. Avi holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and the University of Southern California, and received a Fulbright scholarship for study in Toulouse.

Praised in the New York Times for her "impeccable, thoughtfully shaped, dramatically taut" playing, violinist Claire Jolivet has rapidly established herself a leading interpreters of baroque and early classical repertoire. She maintains a busy career appearing regularly with ensembles throughout the northeastern United States, including Repast, Sarasa, Concert Royal, Sinfonia New York, Clarion and the Trinity Baroque Orchestra. She is a founding member of the Dodd String Quartet and concertmaster of the Grand Tour Orchestra.
