5.0 out of 5 stars A Big, Big Sound!, September 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Repeat Offender (Audio CD)
From the opening lines ("Nothing You Can Do About It") of this album, Richard Marx practically challenges us just to try and NOT listen to this music! And, as any listener of contemporary music in the last 10 years knows, we all lost that challenge! Continuing from the spectacular success of his self-titled first album, and last single (the #1 Hold On To The Nights) "Repeat Offender" picks up right where Marx left off. The first single "Satisfied" rocked and rocketed to the top of the charts in just a few weeks. The follow-up single "Right Here Waiting" gave Marx a three-peat at the top, and has become one of the legendary love songs of all time. Following that success, "Angelia" (#3), "Too Late To Say Goodbye" (#7), and the uplifting benefit song "Children Of The Night" (#13), all proved that we just could not, and would not ignore this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps his best album--great late '80s pop/rock, August 24, 2002
This review is from: Repeat Offender (Audio CD)
I prefer the "rock side" of Richard Marx to the more recent R & B style he turned to in the mid-'90s. That being said, this is probably his best album--with a wonderful variety of rock and pop.

The opening track, "Nothin You Can Do About It", is a crunching rocker which I actually heard briefly on rock radio way back when--proving that Marx was once about more than ballads. Equally as catchy is the second track, the lead single and #1 hit "Satisfied". Then comes another big hit, the beautiful yet still somewhat rock-based "Angelia". Gorgeous song.

Everyone who reviews Richard Marx's greatest hits album says it is an absolutely complete collection. I disagree for one reason: the top 20 hit "Too Late To Say Goodbye", which is the fourth song on this album, was not included. This song is a gorgeous, powerful anthem which to me is one of Marx's best singles ever. At the end of that song comes a soft instrumental that leads right in to the all-time famous ballad "Right Here Waiting".

From that point until the last track, the album is filled with non-hit rockers which are all good to great. "Heart On The Line" and "If You Don't Want My Love" are great, while the haunting, rocking "Wait For The Sunrise" is exceptional. That song to me is truly the best of Richard Marx--a fantastic rocker. Then comes that last track, the also-incredible "Children Of The Night". This song has a touching, heartfelt message not to mention melodic, anthemic sound. Beautiful way to end the album.

Along with certain "pop metal" albums, this album represents the epitome of why "'80s music" was so great and fun to listen to. A nearly perfect blend of the best of melodic pop and rock music of that era. I bought this album when it first came out (just months before I turned 20 years old) and still love it to this day.

5.0 out of 5 stars RIchard Marx is a "Repeat Offender"., November 12, 2003
This review is from: Repeat Offender (Audio CD)
Although this album is only his second, Richard Marx has revolutioned the way people think about music. He has combined Rock, Pop, and R&B music into one album that's sure to make you say, "This is Richard Marx?" (although his first album may make you think that as well). When I first listened to this album, I didn't know what to expect. I had listened to his Greatest Hits album and his first album, being "Satisfied" that he was truly, a great songwriter, as well as singer. After listening to this album, I really got into the songs that Richard Marx had written. I could relate to many of them and they became my personal favorites. Even though I ahve pretty much worn out the cd, I keep buying new copies of it because I love the music, the way it is written, and most of all, the fifth song on the cd. This song is called "Right Here Waiting" and it was a major hit. This was the only song I knew before I became interested in Richard Marx and his music. It is my favorite song of all time, and, I think, the most beautiful song ever written. So, if you like a little variety, maybe songs that you can relate to, listen to this album. It's one experience you never forget.
