A Big, Big Sound!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Repeat Offender (Audio CD)
From the opening lines ("Nothing You Can Do About It") of this album, Richard Marx practically challenges us just to try and NOT listen to this music! And, as any listener of contemporary music in the last 10 years knows, we all lost that challenge! Continuing from the spectacular success of his self-titled first album, and last single (the #1 Hold On To The Nights) "Repeat Offender" picks up right where Marx left off. The first single "Satisfied" rocked and rocketed to the top of the charts in just a few weeks. The follow-up single "Right Here Waiting" gave Marx a three-peat at the top, and has become one of the legendary love songs of all time. Following that success, "Angelia" (#3), "Too Late To Say Goodbye" (#7), and the uplifting benefit song "Children Of The Night" (#13), all proved that we just could not, and would not ignore this album.

Perhaps his best album--great late '80s pop/rock,

I prefer the "rock side" of Richard Marx to the more recent R & B style he turned to in the mid-'90s. That being said, this is probably his best album--with a wonderful variety of rock and pop.The opening track, "Nothin You Can Do About It", is a crunching rocker which I actually heard briefly on rock radio way back when--proving that Marx was once about more than ballads. Equally as catchy is the second track, the lead single and #1 hit "Satisfied". Then comes another big hit, the beautiful yet still somewhat rock-based "Angelia". Gorgeous song. Everyone who reviews Richard Marx's greatest hits album says it is an absolutely complete collection. I disagree for one reason: the top 20 hit "Too Late To Say Goodbye", which is the fourth song on this album, was not included. This song is a gorgeous, powerful anthem which to me is one of Marx's best singles ever. At the end of that song comes a soft instrumental that leads right in to the all-time famous ballad "Right Here Waiting". From that point until the last track, the album is filled with non-hit rockers which are all good to great. "Heart On The Line" and "If You Don't Want My Love" are great, while the haunting, rocking "Wait For The Sunrise" is exceptional. That song to me is truly the best of Richard Marx--a fantastic rocker. Then comes that last track, the also-incredible "Children Of The Night". This song has a touching, heartfelt message not to mention melodic, anthemic sound. Beautiful way to end the album. Along with certain "pop metal" albums, this album represents the epitome of why "'80s music" was so great and fun to listen to. A nearly perfect blend of the best of melodic pop and rock music of that era. I bought this album when it first came out (just months before I turned 20 years old) and still love it to this day.

Although this album is only his second, Richard Marx has revolutioned the way people think about music. He has combined Rock, Pop, and R&B music into one album that's sure to make you say, "This is Richard Marx?" (although his first album may make you think that as well). When I first listened to this album, I didn't know what to expect. I had listened to his Greatest Hits album and his first album, being "Satisfied" that he was truly, a great songwriter, as well as singer. After listening to this album, I really got into the songs that Richard Marx had written. I could relate to many of them and they became my personal favorites. Even though I ahve pretty much worn out the cd, I keep buying new copies of it because I love the music, the way it is written, and most of all, the fifth song on the cd. This song is called "Right Here Waiting" and it was a major hit. This was the only song I knew before I became interested in Richard Marx and his music. It is my favorite song of all time, and, I think, the most beautiful song ever written. So, if you like a little variety, maybe songs that you can relate to, listen to this album. It's one experience you never forget.

One of my favorite Richard Marx albums!!!!,

This is probably the first Richard Marx album that my mom ever bought for me, and probably my favorite! I just love his ballad "Right Here Waiting" and "Angelia". But again I was moved over his song "Children Of The Night". Other songs on here are great as well. This is a great follow-up to his debut CD! Rock on, Richard!

If ever there was an album that needed to be reissued, it's Seven and the Ragged Tiger by Duran Duran, but this one is pretty good too. I LOVE Richard Marks! His songs bring back so many great memories of my time dominating the sports and dating scene in Syracuse. Let me list the things about Richard Marks that rule:
1. His hair- Top that look my friend 2. His jackets- He could pull off a leather jacket 3. His music- Probably the third best thing about him, but it was awesome. My favorite song off this classic is Angelia, but there is not a bad track on this. Let me tell you a little story about Richard Marks as it relates to my life. We had an 8th grade dance. There are only so many slow songs during an 8th grade dance and there is only one of me, so quite a few girls were going to be disappointed. I was like an 80s Barack Obama in that is was smooth and just promised lots of things to make people happy. I told about 9 girls I would let them slow dance with me and touch my cool generra shirt. Once I got to the dance, they all had their Bpimp tickets so I was stuck. I had the DJ play Right Here Waiting 9 straight times. Everyone was happy. The girls got there dance and everyone got to hear Richard Marks 9 times in a row. Who loses in that scenario? I'll tell you who loses, Average once again when it takes me on.

Richard Marx: Repeat Offender (1989),
By Chad DeFeo "(ChandlerBingFan)" (Philadelphia, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Repeat Offender (Audio CD)
In 1987, Richard Marx had become a big star in releasing his first album entitled simply, RICHARD MARX. In 1989, two years after the release of his first album, Richard Marx released his second album entitled, REPEAT OFFENDER, his best album by far. This is an album that I most certainly cannot get enough of, no matter how many times a day I play this one.
NOTHIN' YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT The fourth single from the album. A great song to use to open up your sophmore album. This is one hard and heavy song. SATISFIED The first single from the album. This was Richard Marx's second #1 hit single, talking about not giving up your goals until you are satisfied. This is one of the songs where his voice is at its strongest. ANGELIA The third single from the album. This song is one of my favorites from the album. Richard actually come up with this song title when he was on a flight to Texas. The flight attendant's name was Angelia (pronounced as Angel Lee-a). He used the name for this title and just wrote down the lyrics to this amazing song. TOO LATE TO SAY GOODBYE The fifth single from the album. This is another great song, with an edgy beat and rock sound. RIGHT HERE WAITING The second single from the album. When I first heard this song, like five years ago, I was not crazy about it. I didn't even like it. But when I became one of Richard Marx's biggest fans, I grow to love this song very much. It ranks up there with his most biggest and cherished hits. HEART ON THE LINE A great song. REAL WORLD Not bad. IF YOU DON'T WANT MY LOVE I never turn off this song when it comes on. THAT WAS LULU Not bad. WAIT FOR THE SUNRISE Not bad. CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT The sixth & final single from the album. What inspired Richard to write and record this song was a shelter of kids who had severe problems in their lives, such as abuse from their parents. He just wrote the song and recorded it, with the help of some of the kids putting their backing vocals on the song. It was actually the first song, where Richard Marx's late father had composed the music. This song is another one of my favorites. If you a Richard Marx fan and you loved his first album, then get out and buy this incredible follow-up to its worthy predecessor. And I mean run out and but a copy RIGHT NOW!

This 1989 album was a worthy follow up to Marx's impressive debut album & it contains plenty of great guitar driven rock songs as well as several nice ballads. It also spawned 5 hit singles. "Satisfied" which was the first hit single, reached #1 on the charts & is a great high energy rocker. "Right Here Waiting" was also a #1 hit & was one of Marx's finest ballads. The last hit to chart in the top 5 was the underrated "Angelia". A beautiful & moving ballad that deserved more airplay than it got. The other 2 singles were the medium rocker: "Too Late to Say Goodbye" & the slow ballad "Children of the Night". They weren't quite as strong as the first 3 singles but were still pretty decent songs. I personally think that the harder rocking tracks "That was Lulu" & "If You Don't Want My Love" would've made much better singles than the 2 aforementioned songs. They are both more melodic & radio friendly & are right up there with the 3 big hits quality wise. Especially "If You Don't Want My Love" which was co-written by the "The Tube's" lead singer - Fee Waybill. It is a high energy rocker with terrific guitar work by Marx's longtime guitarist - Bruce Gaitsch & if you've ever had your heart broken, you'll definitely be able to relate to the lyrics. Fee also co-wrote "Too Late to Say Goodbye" & sings b/g vocals as well. There are also several other guest artists on this album that were the cream of L.A. session players at the time. Guys like: Randy Jackson (yes that one), Steve Lukather (Toto), Bill Champlin (Chicago) & the Amazing Jazz saxophonist - Dave Koz. Many other lesser known but still outstanding musicians play a part on this album too & they along with a fantastic bunch of songs, make this one of the best offerings in Marx's impressive catalog.

Richard Knows His Pop Songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: Repeat Offender (Audio CD)
First of all, the one star review is ridiculous. The songs were big hits. A third album?. Richard has released 4 albums since, plus a greatest hits. This reviewer must still be trapped in 1989. Okay, moving on. This follow up to his mega successful debut album, is even catchier than the first. The big hits here were two incredibly gorgeous ballads, "Angelia", and a song he originally didn't want on the album, "Right Here Waiting". The rest of this fun and bouncy CD is filled with up tempo songs. The other best songs here are "If You Don't Want My Love", "My Heart On The Line", and "Satisfied". The best song here is the final track, "Children Of The Night", about homeless kids. The lyrics are dead on and tell the truth. This isn't deep or meaningful music as his later albums would be. It's fun, innocent pop, and isn't meant to be taken any other way. Just listen and have fun. I still can't believe that one star review. What world are they in?!.
