Insects attack me as soon as I open the back slider so I need to use plenty of insect repellent for the ticks, flies, and mosquitoes. The Repel 40% works pretty well though I get the occasional bite even after using it. It's been pretty good at keeping the ticks off of me if I'm well sprayed all over. Without repellent I'm a mass of bites all over my arms and my hairless head.

Sportsman Max doesn't have a bad aroma, though it's not one I'd seek out. As far as the spraying mechanism goes, I have had no problems with it.

NOTE I sprayed a generous amount of Repel on my arms and sat at a wooden table for a bit getting the repellent on the wood finish. It seems to have messed up the finish where my arms had rested on the table and created an unexected project for me.

Like another reviewer for this I had trouble with the spray dispenser malfunctioning but I had to hold it completely upright which was totally impractical yet I managed to empty a whole can. As far as performance it did work for ticks, I never got any on me. I used it primarily on my pants and shirt. Once when I went out with untreated pants I got ticks. There are very few mosquitoes in this area so I wouldn't know how well this works on them. I have found out that neither this product or Off or Cutter helped to keep away a certain gnat-like bug which flies around your eyes and tries to get into your ears. I rubbed this on the ears to keep them away but it's useless.

Although the above picture shows both the aerosol and the lotion, this is only the aerosol. The lotion is sold separately.

I purchased this to take on an island trip known for its yellow (biting) flies. Once on the island, I discovered the nozzle was faulty and completely quit working after one spray.

I had no way off the island for the week and there were no stores on the island, so I was subject to many painful bites. I have sensitivity to insect bites and have had another week at home of trying to treat these bites with cortisone creams, etc..

I contacted Repel and was told that if I send in the UPC label and receipt I can get a refund. Well, I'm not really sure how to cut an UPC label off an aerosol can that is under pressure for one thing... and for another, I do not routinely keep receipts for minor purchases over several weeks in anticipation of the products not working.

I am very disappointed in their response and will be sure to avoid buying their products in the future.
