Releasing his debut album at the age of 13, Smith has gone on to influence the work of such… Read more in Amazon's ESham Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Another classic y'all!, November 20, 2003
This review is from: Repentance (Audio CD)
This CD is very different from his other CDs but that is merely because he is older now and his rhymes and all that aren't gonna always stay the same, but he's still gonna rap the wicket sh*t, and he doesn't fail to do that in "Repentence". Songs like "Woo Woo Woo Woo" and "Boss Up" sound more mainstream but when the mainstream is tainted by the wickit sh*t then that just makes it so much fresher. "In Detroit" kind of reminded me of a hardcore old school Eazy-E song, and the other thing that i liked about this CD is that Esham didn't fall into the PSY rotation on structure and producing. Don't get me wrong, Psychopathic Records will always be my favorite, and i'm down with the clown for life, but Esham can't be tainted, and he really shows that in this CD, especially the song "All of my Life" which is the most jaw dropping song i've ever heard from Esham because he has never done a song like that before and it sounded perfect! Much props to Esham!

4.0 out of 5 stars Repentance is my personal fav Esham, July 27, 2009
This review is from: Repentance (Audio CD)
Repentance was Esham's Debut Album on Psychopathic Records and in the height of ICP's feud with Eminem,Esham is also at war with Detroit's Emcee being as he is a Legend in the Underground Scene. The Album starts off hardcore with Bang and takes into great tracks like "Woo Woo Woo" with a strong beat and catchy lyrics,"back in the day" which takes shots at Eminem,Dr Dre and D12 and "Hard Times" with ICP which does the same as well as being a really good track."Look at Me" with Twiztid and "Boom" with Violent J are the Album's stand out tracks in my opinion.I love J's verse in Boom and he comes harder than E actually. The only tracks that i dont care much for are "Boss Up" and "No War".

3.0 out of 5 stars Some what disapointed but it is still Esham, January 3, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Repentance (Audio CD)
Esham has always been my favorite rapper and still is but he continues on a downward spiral with his music. He made a good business move by signing with Icp's label which does receive top distrubution and has already earned him a few conections with some major hip hop stars. A collab with Bone Thugs and Harmony and he is set to do a tour with Ice Cube and Westside Connection. The only problem I have is with the new music he is producing. First the whole Repentance theme is hard to swallow. When he says "Word to Jesus" it makes me cringe every time I hear it. Don't get me wrong I really don't mind that he has left his Satanic roots behind. Some of the best work he did in my opinion was on Mail Dominance, Dead Flowers, Tounges, and the Natas release WWW.com. But Esham has always pointed out the hypocrysies of religion and this reason alone made him stand out in the pack of other rappers who indulge in sleaze and violence yet always seem to give blessings to the lord. Esham never hesitated to admit being evil and enjoying every minute of it. Esham repenting in his music also seems pointless since in interview he always claimed his unholy alter ego was always for entertainment purposes and he never took devil worship seriously to begin with. Born again Christianity is not the only beef I have with the album. Esham continues to dwell more into cliched mainstream rap. Always talking about "getting Doe" and even bringing us a far left wing(and slightley dated) anti war song. The appearances by ICP and Twizted don't help either. Some people like these guys I can' stand them. There are a few decent tracks here and there but overall a disapointment.
