3.0 out of 5 stars Some what disapointed but it is still Esham
Esham has always been my favorite rapper and still is but he continues on a downward spiral with his music. He made a good business move by signing with Icp's label which does receive top distrubution and has already earned him a few conections with some major hip hop stars. A collab with Bone Thugs and Harmony and he is set to do a tour with Ice Cube and Westside...

This CD is very different from his other CDs but that is merely because he is older now and his rhymes and all that aren't gonna always stay the same, but he's still gonna rap the wicket sh*t, and he doesn't fail to do that in "Repentence". Songs like "Woo Woo Woo Woo" and "Boss Up" sound more mainstream but when the mainstream is tainted by the wickit sh*t then that just makes it so much fresher. "In Detroit" kind of reminded me of a hardcore old school Eazy-E song, and the other thing that i liked about this CD is that Esham didn't fall into the PSY rotation on structure and producing. Don't get me wrong, Psychopathic Records will always be my favorite, and i'm down with the clown for life, but Esham can't be tainted, and he really shows that in this CD, especially the song "All of my Life" which is the most jaw dropping song i've ever heard from Esham because he has never done a song like that before and it sounded perfect! Much props to Esham!

4.0 out of 5 stars Repentance is my personal fav Esham, July 27, 2009
This review is from: Repentance (Audio CD)
Repentance was Esham's Debut Album on Psychopathic Records and in the height of ICP's feud with Eminem,Esham is also at war with Detroit's Emcee being as he is a Legend in the Underground Scene. The Album starts off hardcore with Bang and takes into great tracks like "Woo Woo Woo" with a strong beat and catchy lyrics,"back in the day" which takes shots at Eminem,Dr Dre and D12 and "Hard Times" with ICP which does the same as well as being a really good track."Look at Me" with Twiztid and "Boom" with Violent J are the Album's stand out tracks in my opinion.I love J's verse in Boom and he comes harder than E actually. The only tracks that i dont care much for are "Boss Up" and "No War".

Esham has always been my favorite rapper and still is but he continues on a downward spiral with his music. He made a good business move by signing with Icp's label which does receive top distrubution and has already earned him a few conections with some major hip hop stars. A collab with Bone Thugs and Harmony and he is set to do a tour with Ice Cube and Westside Connection. The only problem I have is with the new music he is producing. First the whole Repentance theme is hard to swallow. When he says "Word to Jesus" it makes me cringe every time I hear it. Don't get me wrong I really don't mind that he has left his Satanic roots behind. Some of the best work he did in my opinion was on Mail Dominance, Dead Flowers, Tounges, and the Natas release WWW.com. But Esham has always pointed out the hypocrysies of religion and this reason alone made him stand out in the pack of other rappers who indulge in sleaze and violence yet always seem to give blessings to the lord. Esham never hesitated to admit being evil and enjoying every minute of it. Esham repenting in his music also seems pointless since in interview he always claimed his unholy alter ego was always for entertainment purposes and he never took devil worship seriously to begin with. Born again Christianity is not the only beef I have with the album. Esham continues to dwell more into cliched mainstream rap. Always talking about "getting Doe" and even bringing us a far left wing(and slightley dated) anti war song. The appearances by ICP and Twizted don't help either. Some people like these guys I can' stand them. There are a few decent tracks here and there but overall a disapointment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The originator, February 7, 2006
This review is from: Repentance (Audio CD)
Repentance may not feature the wicked style that old school Esham fans are use to, but it is still and excellent hip-hop album. The great thing about Esham is that he is one of the few rap artists out there that writes all of his lyrics and produces all of his beats. Mike P. did one song on this album, but all the rest were produced by Esham himself. This album breaks the mold of most past Esham's albums in that it features many guest appearances by ICP, Twiztid, Bone Thugs N Harmony and TNT. Best songs are Woo Woo Woo, Paid, Hard Times, Get That Doe, and Boom. Just as it says on the front of the cd, this is Fine Detroit Hip-Hop.

I am for sure Peter Jay that if you have actually heard illmatic you would enjoy it.When Esham started he was 14 and he is not underground rap he is hardcore rap.Underground rap is Kweli, Dilated Peoples,Jurasic 5 and many others. Those guys are underground rappers and infact I did here this stuff and did not find to be all that great and illmatic must really suck since it is called a real rap classic a underground classic and Esham knows him self that irf he were to diss Nas.Nas would completely destroy him and Nas is not even the best rapper ever that would be KRS-ONE lets see Esham battle KRS-ONE it will not ever happen because Kris has the superior skills and Esham is not even really rap I do not understand why you cant see what is good. You may not like Nas thats fine but dont diss real hip hop[ if you dont know it.sorry but this is no real hip hop infact it is far from it.But 319 reviewers over whelmingly say that Nas is real rap.And I am not crying. Why must you get so affended by a little speech and say some of those Nasty things you said that is defimation of charector and is not true I urge you and promise you Peter not being mean to get some real hip hop you can still get this but also get a KRS-ONE album.I dont want to have any beef for saying what I think you can call me a Hypocrite are what ever but fact is Nas is still real hip hop and you and others can never take that away from him.Be cool Peter just relax man I am relaxed just cool out I will give your album 5 stars just dont get all pissed off at me its not my fault it is just my openion and I did here it.Buy Illmatic and you will see the power of rap and you will to say This Nas guy is not so bad I will give it a listen

5.0 out of 5 stars He's Done It Again!, December 1, 2003
This review is from: Repentance (Audio CD)
After hearing the new tracks that Esham did on Acid Rain along with his latest collaborations, I wasn't expecting anything astonishing from this new album. Not that those were poor tracks he did recently, but nothing on Tongues or even Dead Flowerz. However, I heard three of the singles before the CD dropped which calmed my nerves a bit, and on the day it was out I bought it. "Bang" hit like a ton of bricks when I blasted it in my car, top production and flow by Esham. Then I heard "Can't Take That" which is a remake of one of his classics off of Closed Casket...from those two tracks alone, I knew this was more than I'd expected. Over all this album plays through close to perfection. This album has elements of almost all past work Esham has done in my opinion. Mike P did a great job on the tracks he produced and the guest appearances by Violent J, Bone Thugs N Harmony, and TNT of NATAS were chosen very appropriatly. Though a lot of this album was made to appeal to the mainstream, Esham does not reduce his style. However, if you are a Juggalo who's new to Esham, take this as fair warning, this is NOT a Juggalo album by any means and it was NOT made to appeal to Juggalos. Even though Esham is signed to Psychopathic, it does not mean he changed his style to mesh with the label because he didn't. However, if you are a Reel Life Product, an underground hiphop fan, or even a Juggalo open to new sounds; it's likely that this album is one you just gotta pick up. Repentance is Esham's attempt to break into the mainstream, but whether he is successful or not, this album is without a doubt a classic.
