This belt is generic 0.5"X35" V-belt, which you can easily buy equivalent belt at ACE hardware. The problem is that the generic belt does not work for MTD single stage snow thrower. Single stage thrower uses the belt as a slip clutch & auger brake. Original MTD belt has more fabric than rubber at the friction surface to aid slippage when the auger drive bail is not pulled. But generic V-belt has more rubber because usually V-belt is not for slippage.

So, after a short uses (in my cases, about 4 hours), the belt wears quickly at one spot when the auger drive bail is not pulled.

Another problem is that the auger does not stop effectively. Because the friction at the engine pulley is so great, the belt keeps rolling even when the auger drive tension is released and brake is engaged. This is a safety issue.

In conclusion, don't buy this belt for MTD(Troy-Bilt, etc.)single stage snow thrower. I will check Lowe's if they sell the genuine MTD belt for less than MTD parts online.

Got it for my (old) snow thrower. This was the part number that was in the manual, I got two so I have one spare. Have not touched the spare yet.

I have a Troy-Bilt, but there are obviously many brands that change the color of the plastic and sell it as their own. The owner's booklet listed the belt part number, I found it here on Amazon for about half the price of a local purchase.

After reading my booklet further, I found there was an adjustment to the cable that engages the blower, so I made this adjustment and now this belt is my spare. You might want to check if your machine has 2 holes in the lever on the handle like mine. It took all of 30 seconds to move the cable to the other hole!

Still wouldn't hurt to have a belt when you're ready for it, though.

It worked fine on my MTD snowblower. I did adjust the Clutch wire to the lower hole on the clutch handle. I think that is a better setting for a new belt. When a belt wears off and/or starts slipping at this setting I will move it to the tighter setting. It is really a good product at a very good price.

The belt broke on my snow blower and the local stores were out of them. I bought a belt from an auto supply dealer but it was not the correct thickness (too loose) and did not work properly. I ordered the one from Amazon because it was much less expensive than other belts I found online. When the one from Amazon arrived I noticed the difference in thickness immediately and assumed it was the correct belt. The next time it snowed I used it and it was ALMOST perfect but not quite. The more expensive ones which did not say they were 'replacements' were probably a better fit. If this belt lasts as long as the original belt, I will be living where it doesn't snow the next time I need a belt.

This is not the correct belt for a Troy Bilt 21" Squall snow blower. It needs to be cut more as a `V' shape, and is too flat to roll on the pulleys and stay. Comes right off the pully. Go to Troy Bilt web site to order, or better yet, take the old belt when you go shopping to get the right `V' cut. This is a good snow blower for up to 12" snow. I keep ruining my belt by pushing snow blower into packed ice.

The long and the short of it, is that the belt is just too thick for the machine, as a result auger still spins even when the tension pulley is not engaged. To make matters worse, the vendor charges a 20% restocking fee....guess I'll find some use for it.

The belt did what it was supposed to do so it met my expectations.

The better part was the vendor who without any additonal charge shipped the belt from the West Coast to Pennsylvania in 3 days.

The title says it all. I priced the MTD belt at a local big box and it was more than twice the cost of this. This part appears to be of equal quality so I'm happy to keep the savings.
