This is a lovely and potentially very useful item. Unfortunately, the clamp opening did not fit my 1 3/8"-thick table edge. The clamp opening is only 1". Since I could not use the Sewing Bird on another table, I had to return it, hence the 4-star rating. Had the seller included the measurement of the clamp opening, that would have been helpful.

I bought a sewing bird a few years ago, in which the seller claimed it was an exact replica of one sold by a major department store during the Victorian era. It was nice, but very small. Anyway, I can't find it so I ordered this one. This one is HUGE. This is the real deal, this is something you can attach to a table and hold your cloth and pins, and you can also display it. It's big enough to be seen and brass has a nice color to it. It weighs a bit, too. I'm delighted!

Well I fell in love with this and I stare at it all the time. It works pretty well for holding onto my fabric. The only reason it got 4 instead of 5 is because it did not fit my IKEA table (about 2" thick). Next time I'm up there Ill measure it so you know. I have it on my ironing board and it works well. Definitely worth the money and soo adorable. great addition to my sewing room

Perfect for vintage hand sewing. the spring grip is tight but not so tight that it will damage or injure fabrics. The gap will accomodate a table that is no more than 2 inches. so it is not suitable for all tables. the pin cushion is only glued in, and velvet is poly velvet stuffed with poly batting fluff materials. If you like vintage novelty hand sewing or are looking to build a modern version of a victorian sewing kit, this will suffice.

I recommend adding rubber gasquet to push pad so you do not strip the soft brass screw when tightening onto table top. and to protect table top, a felt or rubber washer on the top side.

perfect for quickly hand stitching rolled hems. a helping hand.

this is a great idea. The clamp on the bottom fits on thin table tops and shelves. Fortunately i could put it on a shelf above my sewing desk (which I couldn't use it on). I only gave it 4 stars because the grip (where the bird beak is) is not too strong and I had to apply a round felt pad on each beak so it hold fabric as I pulled it taut. The pads are really for under chair legs. Now it works pretty well.

(review by Marc's wife) - I love this! This would be a wonderful present for anyone who sews. If the sewer is you; treat yourself!!

I've been hand-sewing for decades and I can't believe how using the sewing bird speeds up and makes more convenient the process. I'm now a sewing bird addict!

If your table is thicker than about one inch, you'll have to find something else to fasten it to. I have it fastened to the end
of a folding tray table thats parked at my elbow with sewing stuff on it.

Its even nicer than the photo, nice and substantial and very attractive

This item may be a replica of a Victorian sewing tool, but it is as useful today as it was then. I do a lot of hand sewing; as in I sew entire clothing items wholly by hand. This device holds the fabric in position which makes the stitching so much faster and easier! Even if I was only hand finishing a machine sewn garment this would be a valuable tool. I cannot understand how such a handy thing became so little known and utilized!

this is a great tool if your a crafts person or sew alot...It's not only lovely to look at it is very heavy . the bird is strong enough to hold your fabric,or macrame cord, not lightweight at all.I purchased 2 and use one up on a high shelf which holds a hanging mobile, very impressive as a decoration.Great price also
