Book Description

That Patchwork Place October 2001
Turn Any Photograph into a Personalized Quilt

If you can take a picture, you can transform it into a quilted heirloom! With this "repliqué" technique, you simply enlarge a photograph on a copy machine, and then sew fabrics directly onto the enlarged image. Create accurate reproductions of buildings, people, pets, cars--"repliqué" almost any image into a one-of-a-kind quilted memory.

· Six projects plus a sample pattern walk you step by step through this innovative technique, which shows you how to replicate a photo's precise detail, depth, and perspective in fabric

· Start with simple images such as a basic house, and then move on to a more elaborate church, wildflower scene, and covered bridge

· Create unique gifts for family and friends, such as a quilt featuring a new homeowner's house, a favorite family photo, or a collage of several images

Capture an image in fabric with the fun, easy, and inventive techniques in Repliqué Quilts.

More About the Author

Having a degree in Dental Hygiene and no formal art training, I began my quilting life as a traditionalist in a class I was dragged to by my sister-in-law. I had no intention of becoming a quilter and yet, I discovered I loved all aspects of quilting....the stitching, the collecting of antique quilts and even an appreciation of quilted art.
In time I wanted to leave the patterns and books of others behind and started experimenting with pieces of my own design. Some of my initial attempts won awards and I was thrilled to discover a hidden creativity. My current work expresses my passion for color and design, my insistence on good workmanship and my faith in Christ. I do not consider myself a serious artist, but rather a joyful one and I feel my work reflects this in the content, variety and passion of each piece.
I find as much fulfillment in sharing my passion with others through lectures, workshops and books as I do in creating my own work. My most recent book: Snuggle and Learn Quilts for Kids, was inspired by the birth of my first grandchild. Hanna lives 1000 miles from me and I filled the "I miss Hanna" moments by making her quilts that were not only colorful and cuddly, but educational. The response from her and all who saw them was so positive that I decided I should share my patterns with others who have special children in their lives. If you have wanted to create pictorial quilts but feel you cannot draw, this book will solve your problems. Simply start with a photograph. The instructions are clear, taking you through each step of several practice projects. A section explains how to stitch common features such as trees, fences and windows into your projects. The directions are clear and well illustrated. There is also an excellent gallery to inspire you.
