5.0 out of 5 stars A Super nice Globe for a very low price
I never realized that a blow up globe could be so nice. This globe is larger than I realized. I use it for lecturs on my Arctic, North Pole and Siberian Expeditions and Global Warming. It takes quite a few breaths to fill it up so I only let a little air out when I transport it. But it is fantastic for the kids to look at as I do my talks. It looks just great and it...

1.0 out of 5 stars Get something smaller and less Sino-centric
The ball is a lot of fun to play with. However, there are much cheaper beachballs that achieve this same effect without the disappointment of being geographically inaccurate in more than a couple of places, some of historical significance to at least one continent. There is a patch you get with the set that you could technically mark-up and paste onto the neglected areas...

It looks just great and it looks like the real earth without any clouds. The map of Siberia is not correct, but neither are any of my other hard shell globes. Even the map library at our local University doesn't have accurate maps, but strangely enough, Microsoft Flight Simulator does have accurate maps showing Khatanga, the city which has the famous Woolly Mammoth.

One review said that this globe was junk because the kids kicked it around a few times and it broke. Well, this product was not meant to be a beach ball, it is a globe for educational use and it is very good for this purpose. I highly recommend this. 2005 North Pole Expedition Leader. C. Jeff Dyrek

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge inflatable politcal globe., April 7, 2008

With all the news about the Middle East and former Soviet republics, a standard 12" globe is just not big enough. This globe is enormous and the printing is far better than expected. Replogle is a well-respected manufacturer and they uphold their reputation with this product. It gives resolution that is impossible on a smaller globe and it shows the true relative sizes of the continents/countries so much better than flat maps. For example, Africa is way bigger than one sees on flat maps, and Greenland is much smaller. One often hears that Russia has 11 time zones, but that's because it's all north of Boston, where the meridians are closer together. At half the price of a quality 12" hard globe, this is a real bargain and fun to toss around as well. One of those purchases that really delights.

I used this inflatable topographical globe for VBS to show my kids where we live on the planet and where other places are relative to N. America. They were all 7-year-olds, and they loved it, having been introduced to geography in First Grade. Its size (27") and deep colors made it an eye-catcher as well as easy to see by a large group of kids. It's made of a heavy-weight vinyl, so I think it will serve me well for some years to come.

Comes fixed with a rubber loop to mount from above to give a 23 degree tilt. Good product - a bit expensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Globe makes for fun geography learning!, November 20, 2011

Ah, this is a nice globe that helped my 4 year old daughter get excited about world geography. We find and point out where we are from and where everyone we know is from. It is essentially a beach ball. It will probably break if it is climbed on, just like a beach ball. It says it has bumps for the topography, but it does not. It shows where deserts are. Mine looks exactly like the one in the picture. The north and south poles are a little screwed up due to the beach ball construction, but everything else is pretty perfect. It has the names of oceans, continents, and countries.
Couldn't be better! I would recommend it for home geography enrichment or even the classroom, but you may have to buy more for the classroom.

I needed a prop for a upcoming photo shoot. a few pics a beautiful model/super heroine holding a world in her hand ala atlas. this globe is incredible and just what we were looking for. i know when the picture is taken it will really be just what we envisioned it to be. The detail and quality of this globe will no doubt stand out and i could not be more satisfied.

I am sure that this is not going to last forever...it's essentially a beach ball...but for the money it is an awesome learning tool for the little ones. My 4 year old granddaughter is learning geography and doesn't even know it and having a ball...(excuse the pun). Great value and much sturdier than most products I have seen of this type. And if it does break, it will be cost effective to replace.

My Three year old loves this globe. I can expose him to the shape of the continents and how the world looks, and he can play with it at the same time. Definitely a good purchase for children interested in planets.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun ball, January 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a regular beach ball with a globe printed on it. The only disappointment was that the poles are covered, so one piece of the globe is missing (part of Antartica). I bought this globe for a preschooler for Christmas. He likes to play with it and asks simple questions about where we live. It was worth the price and seems sturdy (he throws himself onto it regularly as if it were an exercise ball). It is a beach ball though, I am sure it will not put up with too much abuse! This was a cheap alternative to the super fancy earth balls you can buy. In my case, our preschooler would not appreciate, need, or otherwise understand a satilite imaged ball or a real globe, so this was a nice choice.

The ball is a lot of fun to play with. However, there are much cheaper beachballs that achieve this same effect without the disappointment of being geographically inaccurate in more than a couple of places, some of historical significance to at least one continent. There is a patch you get with the set that you could technically mark-up and paste onto the neglected areas of importance to you if you're so inclined... but the patch kit is supposed to be for when the ball tears.

Blowing up the ball is a major invitation to a sugary chemical toxic billow cloud coming out at you. Thank you for that kick in the pants, manufacturer!

I think the two omissions that caused me to write this review both have something to do with the concept of the Asia-centered world map, which places China at the center (China being translated into 'middle country' or 'middle kingdom' originally) splitting the Atlantic Ocean and messes up places like Iceland, the nine Azores archipelago islands, Madeira, Canary Islands, the discoveries of which awakened the crowned heads of Europe to the idea that there's land out there to be settled and found - as opposed to splitting the world map from the internationally-agreed upon date line running down the Pacific. The propaganda mindset shows in the neglected geography - it's just easier not to have to think about lining up these places if you just omit them on your way to totally ignoring what the international community decided on for a world map. And you should see the stretch they did on the land from India to S.E. Asia. Bangladeshis will be very happy to learn their coast has been stretched to more than double what it is in reality. Perhaps they can ship some of the land back to the Azores as a humanitarian donation.

A nice promising ball but ultimately a bit big for road trips with kids and not really your best educational friend for your kid once you actually start getting down to the brass tacks. Speaking of brass tacks...
