5.0 out of 5 stars A Real D.C. Story, August 6, 2008
By
Lucifer (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews
Ruthless corporate power brokers, tense congressional hearings, accusations of marital infidelity, shrill TV talking heads, high-tech spying, assassination attempts. It's all part of a normal day in Washington, DC. If you don't believe me, just read a few weeks of the Washington Post. And if you want to get it all of the above in one fast-paced legal thriller, read The Report to the Judiciary. Judge Sullivan has hit all of the angles in this novel that should appeal to a wide-variety of readers. It's worth it alone for the detailed and knowledgeable insight into the military and spy worlds that Judge Sullivan can provide like very few others.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Report to the Judiciary, October 13, 2008

The Report to the Judiciary Judge Sullivan writes straight from his gut and heart. There is no need for use of any second-hand information based on his extraordinary background as a West Point graduate, Airborne- / Ranger- (and instructor) qualified, VN combat veteran, White House counsel, and distinguished jurist. Both this book and his prior one, THE MAJORITY RULES, are fast-paced, totally realistic, intricately detailed (but well-explained) thrillers. They both kept me up late a few nights to seek the outcomes. I await the next one....or more !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Report" is Outstanding, November 20, 2008
Judge Sullivan has matured from a good story teller ("The Majority Rules") to an exceptional writer. In "The Report ..." we are entertained with mystery, murder, deceit, power politics, racism and greed; tempered by some integrity, dedication and honesty - all conveyed in the caliber of Ken Follett, John Grisham, Vince Flynn, Nelson DeMille, et.al. At the same time we are educated with a tutorial on our Constitution, the separation of powers, adjudicatory processes - all working just as our founding fathers envisioned. And the hints of some very sophisticated intelligence gathering capabilities are remarkable. Clearly the Judge is keenly aware of Washington workings, makeup and intrigue. He has written a well crafted and entertaining book that reflects his wealth of experience and knowledge. What's next?

5.0 out of 5 stars Domestic Terrorism, Politics, and the Supreme Court, October 8, 2008
By
USMA79 "Jeff" (Washington, D.C.) - See all my reviews
It's hard to imagine a plot that combines domestic terrorism, the Supreme Court, and Washington-insider politics, but this book brings all of these elements together seamlessly in a fast-paced thriller. It's the second Sullivan book that I've read, and he is now among the authors that make me eager to see what they will write next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best thriller in years, September 5, 2009

This review is from: The Report to the Judiciary (Mass Market Paperback)
The Majority Rules is a well-crafted "page turner". The realistic action plus the insider knowledge from the author (a retired Federal Judge) grabbed me from the beginning---the unusual death of the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court during a court session starts a movement to place Oscar Moorman, an African-American and Vietnam war hero as the Chief Justice of the United States.

The nomination fight in the Senate outlined in this rivetting book is a judicial reflection of the election fight of President Obama to be President, however Moorman has a tougher path to travel. The way thru his Senate confirmation is filled with brutal smears, the murder of a potention witness, and racial hatred against Moorman.

I give it a well-deserved 5 star rating based on well-paced race by a minority to head the judicial branch. This is a great Washington thriller.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down, July 10, 2008
Eugene Sullivan's REPORT TO THE JUDICIARY is the first book I've read in years that I could not stop reading. It races from chapter to chapter, and each chapter leaves the reader in increasing suspense. I could not guess what the ending would be until I read the last pages.
Sullivan is a retired judge, and knows more about the inner workings of the US Government than most observers.
I recommend this to anyone who wants an excellent read full of excitement -- and wants to know how Washington REALLY works.

"Here comes the Judge!" The story is riveting - and it is realistic. As I read this novel, I couldn't help but to put myself somewhat into the story. It reinforced the sad truth that there are thugs in Congress - and elsewhere - who will do whatever is necessary for personal gain. And that's the substance of "The Report to the Judiciary". The only negative to the book is that it is so realistic that I found myself getting furious at the dirtbag power brokers of the story. Solid stuff Judge Sullivan. When's the next one coming out?

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, July 28, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I thought this book was great! I found Judge Sullivan's insider knowledge that's exhibited in this book to be troubling. It's not only murder and bullying that gets things done in Washington courts but greed and personal IOU's. With Sullivan's background this is a completely believable story. Who would know better? This book had a hold of me from the first page. And with an unexpected ending thrilled me to the finish. Want to see what dirt could be going on in your Supreme court? Read this book!
