Half of the book is blank reserved for notes!,
This review is from: The Reporter's Notebook : Writing Tools for Student Journalists (Spiral-bound)
Pages 38 to 97 -- half the book -- is just blank space for notes, which you could just as well write in a 10-cent, 70-page notebook spiral. The beginning of the book is mostly made up of pages with simple checklists and address forms, with some bulletted questions here and there.

Notebook a Decent Supplement to Journalist Courses,
By Tracy (Owensboro, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Reporter's Notebook : Writing Tools for Student Journalists (Spiral-bound)
Mark Levin's notebook for journalism students proves itself an invaluable tool in journalism and media courses. Aside from pages of information to record sources, story ideas, and more, hints and tips are scattered throughout the spiral bound book. This book is a must for any journalism student, or anyone simply interested in writing news stories.

Poorly constructed and adds little value,

I purchased this book thinking that it was an in-depth resource for journalists. It looks like something that someone pulled together on their home computer. It provides basic information that you can find in Strunk and White. Not worth the money!

I used this notebook to teach elementary students in grades three through five how to organize themselves as reporters for our school newspaper. It lends itself to easy application for a variety of audiences. As a teacher, it brought reminded me of content students need. It has been an asset to our elementary journalism class.

Very Handy!,

Although I'm not in high school and am a college student I still found this book to be very handy. I find that the pages in the book where you can write things down are very helpful so that while you are reading you can take notes and your notes will also be with the text.

Unnecessary expense for student journalists,

This review is from: The Reporter's Notebook : Writing Tools for Student Journalists (Spiral-bound)
This notebook is not a very useful tool for student journalists, and it's way too expensive. The same effect would be to give all your students $.79 spiral-bound notebooks after teaching them the basics of journalistic writing.

Need to buy new ones each year.,

This book seems to be published as a consumable, for the classroom, due to all of the blank, lined pages at the end of the book. If you do not want to use it this way, the blank pages are a waste of paper.

Helpful Tool for Journalism Club,
This review is from: The Reporter's Notebook : Writing Tools for Student Journalists (Spiral-bound)
This book has proven to be a practical guide for our journalism club. The story ideas are helpful as are the forms for keeping track of assignments, the interviewing checklist, and the editing checklist.Journalism resources are included as are names of organizations that can provide more information about student journalism and writing. I recommend this book to anyone working with young children with an interest in journalism. It will give you ideas, keep you organized, and point you to additional resources as you need them.

Fun tool for kids,
By Biji Mathew James (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Reporter's Notebook : Writing Tools for Student Journalists (Spiral-bound)
We started a newspaper at our school, Resurrection St. Paul, in Ellicott City, MD this past year. Mark has been so helpful in giving us pointers to get the paper off the ground. The kids were so excited about having their own copy of "The Reporter's Notebook." It did make them feel like real journalists and gave them direction and ideas. I recommend it to members of any school newspaper.
