1.0 out of 5 stars Missed the mark
While I respect Bishop Jakes and enjoy listening to him preach, I felt this book was not one of his best efforts. Sadly in spite of his impressive credentials none of the information in this book was new. The financial information was incomplete but somewhat helpful. I was really hoping for more from this book but was sadly disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars A "How to" Book on Applying Your Faith, June 3, 2007

T. D. Jakes is uncomfortable with preachers who tell people that if they give a certain amount of money they will reap a harvest of results. Similarly he is concerned with people who think that faith will lead to success. These two matters are incomplete, partial aspects of truth that are sometimes taken out of context. He believes that if one is to have faith that works, one must work that faith. Believing is not enough. It is the believing that leads to action that will see the desired results. In the matter of giving, that is part of stewardship, but only a portion. One cannot give what one does not possess. It is by effective stewardship that one has resources to give.

Bishop Jakes speaks with authority because he has successfully applied the principles from Scripture he teaches in this book. Stewardship is holistic. He writes that it is usually easier for some people to concentrate energies on success in the workplace (or ministry) while neglecting success at home. It isn't intentional, but by default that relationships deteriorate. In a straightfoward manner he tells you how to overcome this neglect and excell in domestic matters without cutting back on career success.

It is refreshing to see a man of the bishop's high standards discuss the contributions made by people society might consider to be "unsuccessful." He talks about the valuable marks they made "in spite of their flaws." Amen! We all have flaws and God works through imperfect people.

One of the weaknesses of the book was his examples of role-models. I find it hard to believe a preacher of the Gospel would select some of the ones he spotlights.

He concludes this book in a powerful way, discussing the mystery of giving in spite of the fact that one could never give enough to meet all the legitimate needs that exist. As a guest in Nigeria he describes a situation that caused him to reflect on this phenomenon and he offers a wise analysis of the matter. Overall this is a very powerful book, but coming from Bishop Jakes I would expect no less, as I have read several of his other excellent books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving from the point of captivity to the point of power, May 11, 2007

Reposition Yourself is a profound work that teaches the reader how to understand life lessons through key principles that will reposition his/her life for success. Bishop T.D. Jakes allows us to peek through the eyes of his soul and witness his journey of life as he conquered the fears in his childhood and fought his way to top to eventually lead one of the largest churches of our time.

Repositioning Yourself allows the reader to put himself/herself in the position of Zacchaeus, who repositioned himself so he could see Jesus. Through practical principles, Bishop Jakes teaches his readers how to live life without limits. Bishop Jakes provokes his readers to take a hard, face-to-face look at their lives and what they are doing to position themselves to win. Bishop Jakes shares his struggles and his wisdom on how to fight life's battles and how he eventually overcame those struggles and repositioned himself to win. According to Bishop Jakes, "You cannot win against that which you will not see and confront." He shares with his readers how he was fighting, but he was not aiming at anything. You must fight with a purpose. Intent is vital for success to be achieved in life.

In the chapter entitled, "Lost and Found", Bishop Jakes introduces us to another interesting personality in scripture - Joseph. Being the excellent orator that he is, I can hear him in my head preaching this truth. He tells us that "Joseph was bound by his circumstances, but he overcame them by using his gifts." Bishop Jakes brings us to a place in consciousness where we begin to learn how to move from the mundane to the miraculous. Moving from the point of captivity to the point of power requires you to reposition yourself mentally so that your gifts can unlock the favor in your life that ultimately will help change the destiny of a nation.

Bishop Jakes reveals the riptide of change that can overtake a person's life as a result of shame, as it did Adam and Eve in the garden. Shame will cause a person to hide himself/herself. When shame comes into the picture it will open you to a new reality and cause you to reassess your next steps in life. I like what Bishop T. D. Jakes says - "If you are to reposition yourself for success, you must seek out the options that are most conducive to your ultimate goals." This is a key point and will make the difference between success and failure in life.

Congratulations, Bishop T. D. Jakes on a work well penned! I am sure that the world will hear this message and be provoked to reposition their lives for success. You have written yet another work that looks like it will be a New York Times bestseller. I will continue to see you in your writing.

Respectfully I AM,

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book for Christians and Non-Christians, May 25, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I pre-ordered this book for myself. To date I have purchased two more books and sent them to loved ones and also suggested to many others to go out and purchase this great book at such a cost price. I have read many books and to date this is one of the deepest books I have read. It's for people of all ages whether you're Christian or Non-Christian, believer or non-believer. Bishop Jakes is truly a special man of God and in this book he takes you to a higher level of self-awareness. This is a very powerful book that will take you to new heights in your life, so be prepared to acknowledge the truth about yourself and be ready to discover and accept yourself for who you really are while making the necessary corrections needed to "Reposition Yourself". Everyone should read this powerful message brought to us by this Great Spiritual Messenger.

5.0 out of 5 stars Encouraging and Uplifiting, June 16, 2007
Reposition Yourself offers a powerful message for all, but especially to believers who feel stuck because of their spiritual interpretation of their circumstances. Bishop Jakes provides the keys to unlock the gates that may have kept one hemmed in and limited, and offers exciting Biblical perspectives that allows us to see our lives in a different light. If you are feeling frustrated or hopeless, this book is for you.

There is an urgency to the Bishop's message and even a warning to the slothful, but it is tempered with compassion and folksy wisdom. Bishop Jakes is one of America's best speakers, and in this work he doesn't disappoint as he draws upon his interesting life experience and rich illustrations.

My only minor nit is that sometimes the advice is a bit too basic--especially the financial advice--but you can't be too disappointed in a product that is sincerely seeking to help.

The audio book format works extremely well--an excellent choice for a long drive or a daily commute.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Position of Power, June 25, 2007

Reposition Yourself is the newest release from the skilled writer, orator and man of God,Bishop T.D. Jakes. In this offering, Bishop Jakes teaches how to make changes in your life to see positive results in areas of career, finance, personal development, and many others. Two of the chapters
in this book were dedicated to the unique challenges that women face in the workplace. Bishop Jakes' eloquent writing style is spiritual and uplifting without
being "preachy" and judgmental. Bishop Jakes uses examples from the
Bible as well as from his own life to illustrate common mistakes and
ways to overcome them.

Reposition Yourself is well-written and the best self-help book I have ever come across. Reposition Yourself is a book that has a lesson and blessing for everyone who ventures to read it. Each chapter opens with a relating verse from the Bible; Bishop Jakes uses these verses as a lead into the lesson and moral of the
chapter. I appreciated how he used a contrast of biblical characters and situations. Overall, I recommend Reposition Yourself to anyone who enjoys self-help books,
spiritual reads or is open to the work of a dynamic writer and orator. Reposition
Yourself is available on (CD and tape) for those who prefer. There is also an accompanying workbook available for purchase online.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, April 16, 2008
I really enjoyed the power of this book. When I first started reading it, I thought I was listening to Dr. Phil. I did not enjoy that part ( role playing) in the beginning. Then I sat back and thought about how we are different in situations. Everyone attacks there alter ego by using either strength or weakness. But when we reposition ourself, we remain stable, strong, directioned and empowered. I gave the book to my son, so he could enjoy it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for eveyrone, November 1, 2007

Although any one can benefit from the ideas and concepts presented in this book (and it is very well written and very positive in tone), it seemed to me that the primary beneficiaries from this book would be women or single mothers with economic problems. Having said that, I would again state that anyone can benefit from Rev Jakes ideas.
