Has everything you need,
By Dogwalker Bliss (Upstate NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Hardcover)
REPOTTING thinks of everything one must consider to make a change in life.
Its simple, direct approach is so thorough, you don't have an excuse for omitting a crucial element when evaluating whether a major (vocational, job, etc) change is in your future or not. I only wish it was written a long time ago when I faced some adjustments in my life; my decisions would have been a lot less haphazard and much more realistic. Lucky women today can rely on REPOTTING's 10 steps and catapult themselves into the life they want to live. As a matter of fact, I believe its use goes beyond gender, so anyone (male, female, young, aging) would benefit from its program.

This Book Got Me Motivated,
This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Hardcover)
If you've ever felt restless or a little dissatisfied with the way your life is going, if you sense it's time for a change but aren't sure exactly what it is you want, if you keep promising yourself this is the year you'll finally (fill in the blank) and yet never somehow get around to making it happen, this book will get you moving.
People can outgrow their current circumstances the way a houseplant can outgrow its pot. When that happens, it's time for "Repotting." This analogy is surprisingly apt. Like plants, we need light, nourishment, time and patience. We need to get rid of "weeds" that may be robbing us of space. As gardeners we need to be willing to tear everything up and start over if things aren't working out. According to authors Diana Holman and Ginger Pape, we should plan our lives with the same care we would use to plan a garden. They show how real women have faced and overcome common obstacles to change: the lack of time or resources, the need for further education or training, the courage to risk making mistakes. Although its focus is on women and the unique challenges we often face, anyone could profit from the suggestions in this book. There seems to be an insight on every page, but of course, insight is never enough. What I liked best was the detailed, step-by-step plan Holman and Pape offer to guide us on our way. With the help of a free downloadable workbook, the authors provide lots of thought-provoking exercises designed to get us from dreaming to doing. It's a mini course in self-transformation. Anyone who does all the homework is sure to find her life changed for the better. The contents include: Forward by Lynda Carter Preface "Repotting" by Gunilla Norris Introduction: Becoming a New You PART I: ARE YOU READY TO REPOT? Chapter 1: How Do You Know You're Ready? Chapter 2: Do You Need More Space Around You? Chapter 3: Do You Need More Light? Chapter 4: Do You Need More Fertilizer? Chapter 5: Have You Outgrown Your Current Planter? PART II: HOW DO YOU REPOT? Chapter 6: Identifying Your Personal Touchstone Chapter 7: Repotting Research: Digging into Your Garden Chapter 8: Partial Repotting: Cultivating One Flower Bed at a Time Chapter 9: Cultivating a New Life and Transplanting Successfully Chapter 10: Rules for Repotting

Hope you have the Time You're Going to need to REPOT,
By Marlene at Thoth Books & Curiosities "Marlene... (Tropical South Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Hardcover)
The book has plenty of valuable information, especially if you're into gardening and the analogies used in this book to get their message across. However if you think this is just about reading a book, think again. At the beginning of the book you are urged to download a Repotting 101 Working from their site, which includes preprinted exercises, formatted pages for your Personal Garden Calendar, Values Orbit Diagram and exercise, Personal Gardening Tips, space for notes and ideas and a summary of all their rules for repotting. You are urged to carry all this information with you at all times. They give you the alternative of providing your own materials and give instructions on this. In other words this is an ongoing process, and unless you have time available, or are willing to make the time for this, repotting can become one more thing on your "to do list".

A bit too formulaic for me,
By Amelia (Gloucester, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Hardcover)
Although this book is organized in a logical manner, and brings up all the important topics to consider when embarking on a life transition, I found it to be too formulaic and simplistic in its approach- the writing style stays very much on the surface and gets kind of "cook bookish". For readers who are used to buying material from Hay House, you might find that this book is not as complex, challenging, and ground breaking as other books from this publishing house. It is a good starting point, however, for folks who are just beginning an evaluation of their need for a transition.

A new lease on life,

This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Hardcover)
Diana Holman and Ginger Pape have provided an easy-to-follow formula for revising your career or life choices. They outline the essential steps and considerations necessary when making a major change, and provide case histories to show that redesigning your life can be done successfully. Buy the book, get the workbook from their website, and you should be on your way to a new future.

This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Hardcover)
This book did not have anything really new to say-and so many others have said all of what is here in much more unique ways. I did not find it of any significant help.

Not quite what I expected,
By Karenanne (Worplesdon, Surrey United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Hardcover)
I was referred to this book from Louise Hay's site and fully expected it to have a more spiritual content. It is a good book for busy working women who want to get more time for themselves and maybe discover more of who they are. I am a stay-at-home mother who has lots of me time and knows herself pretty well but I was looking for a book on how to expand my life and make it more exciting now that my children are older. It wasn't that book.

Ugh -- Not the book for non-gardeners.,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Repotting: 10 Steps for Redesigning Your Life (Paperback)
Well, I was very excited to get this book. All the reviews were great, and the topic really appealed to me. However, once I received the book, I was sorely disappointed. I am not a gardener, and I don't enjoy working in the yard. EVERY TOPIC in this book, from the first few pages I tried to read to the many pages I scanned, used gardening as an example. Ugh! Here are a few examples, just from a ONE random page I turned to:
"1. Conduct a survery. Just as a gardener does a complete survery of the area to be planted, you need to take stock of your current life.... 2. Take an inventory. Gardeners take note of all the elements that affect their landscape.... 3. Create a base plan. After a landscape designer has done a survey and inventory of the fundamental elements in the garden, she develops a base plan for the redesign. 4. Create a flexible program. Gardeners need to look a variety of options and develop alternatives in order to accommodate all the possibilities." Here's an exerpt of headings, from another page about half way through the book: "Nourishing Your Career Garden: Improving your Blossoms wih Gardening Tools" "Career Garden Maintenance" "Growing Your Career Garden". "Finding the Right Fertilizer For You" "Do you need more fertilizer?" "Apply the gardening technique of deadheading (clipping faded flowers from plants) to your schedule. -- Just as you'd remove spent blooms to promote further growth and blossoms in your garden, you need to cut off activities if their costs outweigh their benefits" A Personal Garden Calendar? Garden, garden, garden. If I had a dollar for every time the word "garden" was printed, I'd be a kabillionaire. Clearly, this is not the book for me, since I have a great distain of gardening. Too bad. If you don't mind CONSTANT references to gardening, you may like the book. I'm sure there is great material for your life, if you can get past the gardening. I couldn't. |
