Vintage Vangelis,
By D. Roberts "Hadrian12" (Battle Creek, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Reprise: 1990-99 (Audio CD)
This album is comprised of some of Vangelis' greatest accomplishments of the past 10 years. For those who love and have loved his music, it is a great addition to his prior CDs. To those who are not familiar with his work, it is a wonderful introduction to the immense artistic achievments of the noble Greek. Most of the tracks are quite mellow and great to listen to while studying or reading. However, the album also contains the wonderful, majestic 3/4 time theme to "1492: Conquest of Paradise." The themes are all melded together without any breaks in between the individual tracks. This gives the CD a nice dream-like feel. The CD also has many more tracks which include voices than what you normally find in other Vangelis albums. One of the most notable is the theme from the foriegn movie "The Plague." I have not seen the movie, but I have read the book (written by Albert Camus). I would highly recommend that anyone who buys this CD read the book either before or while listening to it. I believe that all Camus fans would agree that Vangelis captures the sombre tone of that book, which is so heartwrenchingly sad, in his music. So run out to the store and buy this CD. If you are familiar with Vangelis, you will not be disapointed. If you are not familiar w/him, you are in for a treat!

Another Timeless Classic Collection,
By Vasilius Trokis (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Reprise: 1990-99 (Audio CD)
Vangelis has delivered yet another graceful and beautiful collection of his fine work. Much like his "Themes" from 1989, "Reprise" is a "best of" from the 1990s, a mesh of syntho-neoclassic tracks only Vangelis can compose and perform. On "Reprise," each track exquisitely blends right into the next, leaving no blank space inbetween. Though other compositions from his "Oceanic" (i.e., "Spanish Harbour," "Memories of Blue"), "The City" ("Twilight"), "Bladerunner" ("Bladerunner Blues") and "1492" ("28th Parallel," "Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria") albums could have utilized here to structure (the already) epochal "Reprise," this superb collection doesn't fail in mesmorizing and whisking the listener into a realm of relaxation, a different state of "otherworldly" mind, or simply amazing you with his superior arrangements. Vangelis is a unique and extraordinary talent unlike any other musician on the face of this planet, and "Reprise" profoundly presents this musical genius whose sound is indelible, stately, and timelessly inimitable. As a long time fan, I recommend this CD wholly! Perfect for introducing someone to Vangelis' unparalleled sound. Most surely, I look forward to another decade of beautiful music from this man.

Capturing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Reprise: 1990-99 (Audio CD)
This CD has you listening right from the first sound, until the last note of the last track. It is beautiful and the tracks from the different movies and pieces blend together and flow beautifully. I have 1492 in my collection, and although a few of the pieces are also on this compilation it does not detract from the overall enjoyment.
