4.0 out of 5 stars Great supplement to "through the Bible"
This is a wonderful book to supplement any read through the Bible plan. With charts and timelines and summaries, I am able to see the "BIG PICTURE" of the Bible.

We are using this in conjunction with the Young Explorers book to homeschool through the Bible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite what the title says
This book purports to include all the charts from the NIV Study Bible, but it does not. It leaves out the chart of Biblical covanents, for instance. Also, the table of contents in incomplete. The book has the parables and the miracles of Jesus, as well as many maps, but does not list them or give page numbers. You have to thumb through the book to find them. What it does...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful for Teaching About the Bible, August 16, 2006
This review is from: Reproducible Maps, Charts, Timelines and Illustrations (Paperback)
I'm a youth pastor and I purchased this book in hopes of finding some maps to help my students better understand the background context of the bible.

I was very pleased with this book because in addition to the maps, it also has lots of great charts and visuals of the tabernacle, temple, ancient cities, etc, AND had a page on each book of the Bible with an outline/major themes to boot! On top of all of that, everything in the book is made to be reproduced; simply put it on the copier and go - no worries about copyrights!

The only thing that could have made the book better would have been some more detailed outlines of the various Bible books, and maybe some rough biographies of some of the major figures.

But I'm not complaining! It is a great resource and well worth the price. I highly recommend it!

What it does have is good, but the omissions and lack of easy access to the material make it harder to use than it should be.

I've been using the maps and timelines from this book with my women's Sunday School class. They love knowing the context and history surrounding our weekly lessons.

If you teach others, you need this book! Ditto everything the other reviewers have said. The companion book "What the Bible is all about for Young Explorers" is essential too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Overly Busy, January 12, 2011
This review is from: Reproducible Maps, Charts, Timelines and Illustrations (Paperback)
Although the written information in the book is good, it really overtakes the "maps, charts and timelines" which was the whole reason that I bought the book. The illustrations are shrunk down to accommodate the text - many are relegated to only half a page with text all around making the actual image frequently only about an inch square. The picture of the temple, for example is very small and very hard to see all the important items in the temple in their proper places. It would be nearly impossible for students to take notes in the margins because of all the clutter. The text is in a really small font making it hard to read. And finally, the timeline images are disappointing. For example, the kings are represented by nearly the same image (only a cartoon face with a crown and beard) making it hard to remember anything specific or special from one king to the next so the timeline ends up looking like a bunch of the same faces with names under them. It would have been nice to have custom made images of more than just a face - perhaps a king in a defining moment for example, on the timeline that would have invoked more information and learning.

Resources like this are great for teachers to give to other teachers, which is how I used this product -- to reward a group of teacher-trainees.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple maps for uncomplicated presentations, July 25, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Reproducible Maps, Charts, Timelines and Illustrations (Paperback)
A key to good presentations at church is to not cram too much info onto a map or timeline. The maps in this book are crisp and contain the succinct info needed. They're black and white, so don't expect to WOW the class. But you can get your point across easily with these maps. The timelines were too simplistic for my use. They are geared more toward Sunday School or early confirmation. However, if you just want to set the boundaries of the time and people without more details, then the timelines will be sufficient. The text explaining the illustrations is excellent and written for you and me rather than some more sophisticated audience.
