5.0 out of 5 stars If you want to change your life, change your mind!
If you're tired of fighting battles with yourself, you need this audio CD! I have tried all of the diets, all of the exercise programs, and at age 40 I still have never managed to find something that works... until now! Kelly Burris's premise is simple: get rid of the destructive thinking that constantly sabotages all your efforts to be what you want to be.

As little...

As little kids we are taught that food is a reward: "Finish your dinner and you can have dessert." "You can have a piece of candy if you (fill in the blank)." You can never really break away from these destructive habits until you address and change them. These subconscious messages are constantly talking to us and giving us the message that we should reward ourselves with food. Our negative messages in our heads tell us to eat because we are fat anyway, and what's the use of trying?

I spent several hours listening to the CD, completing the accompanying booklet, and doing some serious soul-searching. I revisit the writing I did in my booklet every morning and every night. I listen to the CD from time to time to recall key points.

The result: I no longer dwell on food. My thoughts are on other things, and I barely think about food anymore except when I feel hungry. My body is slimming down, and feeling deprived or hungry is never a problem. I am not "dieting." I am just eating when I am hungry and stopping when I'm full, and living a life that does NOT focus on my next meal. I feel liberated!

If you have tried everything else, and feel that your real problem is the destructive thinking that always gets in your way, you should spend this small amount of money to change your life... and your mind!

This program consists of an audio and booklet that is intended to help you reprogram your subconscious to achieve your weight loss goals. The editorial reviews and authors comments are impressive. Unfortunately the program is not. The author begins by explaining why all weight loss programs(except his) will not work. Then he explains how the mind works to make us either fat or thin (so far so good!). He goes on to state that by asking ourselves the right questions, in the right manner, we can lose weight. Instead of saying to yourself "Why am I so fat?" The author suggests you should say something like "What can I do to lose weight?" This is a good tool to use to help achieve objectives. BUT His progam focuses almost totally on having the listener ask themselves questions. And it stops there. Though I do believe the subconscious can be a VERY important tool to use for weight loss, I dont think that Burris explains how to use it effectively. He just tells you to ask yourself questions in a positive way. Well that doesnt always give us answers! His method is very skimpy and lacking in substantial information to help one achieve their goals. In addition, though he has a nice voice his delivery style is rushed. Its hard to follow what he is saying. I honestly do not feel this program will offer a lot to the reader/listener.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A way to help me loose weight!, April 5, 2002

This CD has been working wonders for me! Having worked for a software developer for several years the idea of actually programing or reprograming ones mind intrigued me. The author lays out the foundation for the program on the first track of the CD and then asks you to interact with the second track via a booklet that is included. I did have to listen to the CD more than once to fully understand the process but I did not hear anywhere on the CD where he required you to listen to it twice a day for six weeks as mentioned by the one negative review, and by the way there are some great visual techniques on the second track! The most difficult thing about reprograming oneself is that it requires you to think differently which may be objectionable to some people. Personally I enjoy learning new techniques to control my thoughts and feelings. I believe this process is a MAJOR breakthrough in software for the mind, but you do have to exhibit some diligence just as you would learning any other software program. Give this CD a try! It really works!

Kelly Burris explains WHY positive self talk and imagery are so important and how they really can change how you think. I just got the CD but am already seeing changes in myself...great changes.

It's a short CD, small investment, big payback!

5.0 out of 5 stars Positive results with countless clients!, November 18, 2000

As a veteran in the fitness industry, I am always seeking more effective methods to help my clients. I was so impressed with Mind/Fitness that I have incorporated the system into my client programs. So far, I have had nothing but rave results with a diverse group of individuals with a variety of behavioural changes. Anyone who has not received optimum results from this program has simply not listened to the entire cassette. Herein is the problem with a vast majority of overweight individuals: they want to quickly conclude that they have tried everything and that nothing works--even before they have really tried it! This is a tool to access and CHANGE subconcious programming. Use this audio tool to reprogram your subconcious "tapes" to match your concious wants and goals--for any behaviors, not just weight control. I have witnessed countless clients who have used this tool effectively.

This is one of the worst self-help tapes I've ever had. Burris spends half of the CD over-explaining his basically simple visual/verbal system. He provides little or no experiential guidance, just a lot of over-detailed verbalizations as to why we shouldn't picture ourselves or call ourselves fat. Plus he uses bad grammar.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Waste Your Time, June 6, 2006
This review is from: Reprogramming the Overweight Mind (Now Part of the Hardcover Book) (Audio CD)
I ordered the audio cd before it was part of the Hardcover book. Maybe the companion book helped a bit. The cd was absolutely useless. There were directions included to go to Burris's website and download some material. Again, USELESS. Now, before you say to yourself, " Sour Grapes!! She just didn't like it because she didn't lose any weight," let me proclaim that I am a firm believer in "it only works if you work it." Unfortunately, there was nothing here to WORK WITH!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mind Over Matter, April 28, 2002
By
This review is from: Reprogramming the Overweight Mind (Now Part of the Hardcover Book) (Audio CD)
I really enjoyed Kelly Burris' audio book. I have been studying diet, nutrition, and exercise for 30 years, and Kelly's tenets ring true. There really wasn't anything I would disagree with in the book. We are powerful beings if we would just access that power of the mind. It doesn't have to be a difficult process to lose weight and be fit if you are committed to truly changing the way you think. This book can help you do this. I am sending a copy to a family member with a weight problem(really a mind problem--the weight is just the symptom) and hopefully she will be as excited by it as I am. I also enjoyed Kelly's voice--enthusiastic, positive, and supportive at the same time. Finally someone has written a book that gets to the crux of overweight issues. This book could change your life. I highly recommend it. I wish my sister would have read this book before she had gastric by-pass surgery to lose weight. Thank you Kelly Burris.

This review is from: Reprogramming the Overweight Mind (Now Part of the Hardcover Book) (Audio CD)
I began using MIND/FITNESS in 1989. soon after Kelly completed the program, and "Reprogramming the Overweight Mind" is a wonderful complement to the full spectrum program. I have found through MIND/FITNESS that change is really possible on all levels - physical, psychological and emotional.
This program really touches the mind and soul. I highly recommend it.

As a participant in the Mind Fitness course, I am grateful to have the cassette version to fall back on for added reinforcement. Occasionally, I review the audio book to bolster myself back up again after experiencing self doubt. I have found that "Reprograming the Overweight Mind" does work and it is like any other effective tool--it works if you use it!
