Biography

Formed in 1998, The Strokes became darlings of the music press when they kick-started the garage rock revival in the early 2000s. Though they were often compared to similar New York post-punks Television, The Strokes' debut album Is This It won widespread acclaim and quickly became influential on the indie music scene.

The Strokes were formed when teenagers Julian Casablancas (Vocals), Nick Valensi… Read more in Amazon's The Strokes Store

THE STROKES Reptilia (2004 UK 2-track CD single lifted from the bands second album Room On Fire. Includes the bands duet with Russian/American singer/songwriter Regina Spektor on Modern Girls & Old Fashioned Men which caused the singles release date to be delayed after the cover credits were disputed. 5.0 out of 5 stars I guess we're falling down....., May 31, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Reptilia (Audio CD)
I usually don't bother to review singles, but for the Strokes I'll make an exception, mainly because the new track "Modern Girls & Old-Fashioned Men" is a must for any Strokes fan. The track signals the first time a vocalist beside Julian can be heared in the mix, as it is a duet with Regina Spektor. The closest analogy? Probably when Frank Black and Kim Deal used to share song vocals, but that's still quite a stretch. Pick it up for yourself if you can and see what I mean. I lucked out by grabbing one of the last 7 inches at a Strokes show, but luckily, you can grab it here if you need to. Trust me, like "New York City Cops," this is a Strokes track you want to hear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, March 15, 2004
By A Customer

Good Single...excellent b-side. Reptilia is good, one of the better songs off of RoF, but Modern Girls & Old Fashioned Men is one of the best songs I've heard in a while. The music is great, unique, and a little less similar to the rest of the Strokes music. The guitar riffs are a little more rough. After hearing this, I really appreciate Regina Spektor's voice more. When I saw her live, I thought she was really bizarre. Her somewhat grainy voice in the background, with Julian's slurred voice makes for the perfect combination.

Great little single - the song w/ Regina Spektor is pretty good, too. But I mainly bought it for the cool cover art..
