5.0 out of 5 stars I guess we're falling down....., May 31, 2004

I usually don't bother to review singles, but for the Strokes I'll make an exception, mainly because the new track "Modern Girls & Old-Fashioned Men" is a must for any Strokes fan. The track signals the first time a vocalist beside Julian can be heared in the mix, as it is a duet with Regina Spektor. The closest analogy? Probably when Frank Black and Kim Deal used to share song vocals, but that's still quite a stretch. Pick it up for yourself if you can and see what I mean. I lucked out by grabbing one of the last 7 inches at a Strokes show, but luckily, you can grab it here if you need to. Trust me, like "New York City Cops," this is a Strokes track you want to hear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, March 15, 2004

Good Single...excellent b-side. Reptilia is good, one of the better songs off of RoF, but Modern Girls & Old Fashioned Men is one of the best songs I've heard in a while. The music is great, unique, and a little less similar to the rest of the Strokes music. The guitar riffs are a little more rough. After hearing this, I really appreciate Regina Spektor's voice more. When I saw her live, I thought she was really bizarre. Her somewhat grainy voice in the background, with Julian's slurred voice makes for the perfect combination.

Great little single - the song w/ Regina Spektor is pretty good, too. But I mainly bought it for the cool cover art..

5.0 out of 5 stars ..., February 10, 2004

Let's get this out of the way. Reptilia is the best song off "Room on Fire." "Modern Girls and Old Fashioned Men," is a fantastic song, along with a great collaboration. Regina Spektor's smooth whispery voice, paired with Julian Casablancas' deep raspy voice, make for a great combination. Even if you already have "Room on Fire," get this cd, if only for the new song. It's worth the six dollars.
