This review is from: The Republic Of Cousins: Women's Oppression in the Mediterranean (Hardcover)
THE REPUBLIC OF COUSINS is a socio-anthropological study of women in Mediterranean society. The Author spent many years in North Africa. She provides a wide sweep of analysis of women's life-styles, customs, and aspects of the coercive practices they suffer from. The book is informative in a generalized way, but there are areas where tangential issues and their treatment dilutes concentration of the main theme. But the book is usefully informative in those aspects of North African womanhood the author is well acquianted with.
