If your a F-84 fan this book is for you!,

This review is from: Republic F-84: Thunderjet, Thunderstreak, & Thunderflash/A Photo Chronicle (Schiffer Military/Aviation History) (Paperback)
This is a solid informational and fact filled book on the F-84. I am a recent fan of the F-84 due to the release of the 1/48 tamiya kit. I wanted to learn more about this amazing jet of the fifties. This book shows all the foriegn users as well as a listing of all the USAF squadrons and groups. It also has a generous portion of color photos of operational aircraft, foriegn aircrat, and even gate guards. If your are going to build a model of the E,F,or G model F-84 this is the book. It also has good information on the FICON program. The pages are thick and sturdy. This book is definetly a premier book in my collection. A very good buy for the amount of information contained therein.

I really wanted to like this book- the pictures and captions are excellent, and there isn't too much out there dealing with this important early jet. The problem is the terrible, turgid, unnecessary text. I really don't need to read an entire paragraph about what air division a given ADC wing was attached to, or who the commanders were. That isn't part of the operational history of the Thunderjet/streak/flash family. Added to the poor writing is the atrocious editing and typos common to many of Schiffer Publishing's books. All in all, I'm glad I bought it, but it is for looking at, not reading.

This book is really packed with information about the F-84 family, I found particularly well documented the section dealing with the early use of the straight wing variants,as no other book provides this aspect of the thunderjet's career.
On the minus side, the section about the use of F/RF-84 in the Italian air force is loaded with typos (none of the 20 or so Italian words is spelled correctly), but this doesn't subtract too much to the value of the book. In my opinion the ultimate reference book on the F/RF-84.

I really enjoyed and have bought three of them for my old airforce buddies. The F-84 is such a forgotten airplane, it is amazing that anyone found so many pictures. Enjoy!

Purchased this book as a reference for the F-84 type of aircraft so what I was looking for is a bit different than I think most buying this book. In most respects the book is good, however I found the photo quality in some areas to be substandard, which for me in a Schiffer published book is unusual. Some photos could use a better caption to explain what you are looking at. Then again there are many outstanding photos especially of some USAF units which are not often seen. For the price paid, I was satisfied with the book, but would have gladly paid twice the price for better quality and perhaps some illustrations. Book covers what is today a little known aircraft, but in the aircraft's hay day, fifty years ago it was a common sight. Not a lot out there on this aircraft so this book is welcome, but do wish it would have been a bit better, it sure could have been. Bottom line I guess, if I had seen this book in a book store and looked through it would I have still purchased it? YES and without regret.

I ordered this item as a gift. Our friend appreciated receiving the book and acknowledged receipt with a thank you, but added the comment that it was not new. This was particularly disappointing, I was a little embarrassed to have sent a used gift.
