Book Description

September 1, 2008
This book is a polemic directed against the Republican Party and the conservative movement, drawing largely on their own published statements. Alleging that the Republican Party is fascist and treasonous, the author defines both fascism and treason, and offers quoted testimony in support of his claim. He shows that the US policy of political warfare around the world was originated under President Eisenhower and is still going on full force.
In the wake of World War II, the US attacked democratic movements on the false claim of fighting communism. Now democratic movements are targeted on the false claim of fighting terrorism, suggesting that they are a threat to US security. Deciphering some of the code words and unmasking the misleading motivations that have been used to make US citizens support war, the book is a guide to reading between the lines of Washington news briefs and campaign rhetoric.
The author discusses the hypocritical nature of the Republican Party and describes an important change in this country's foreign policy from the Truman administration's containment of communism to a new policy of political warfare that has held sway ever since. The narrative analyzes the Republican Party's overblown and misdirected anti-communism and its fascist orientation.
Highlighting similarities between Fascism and today's Republican Party and the Conservative agenda, the author presents a dense compendium of quotes, mostly from conservative Republicans who incriminate themselves in their own words. One series of assertions and observations frankly describes US imperialism and expansionism, especially as carried out by the Polk and McKinley administrations. That part of the book then discusses the attacks on Iraq in considerable detail. Other groups of quotations set forth the conservative belief system, focusing on the ideas of democracy, secularism, relativism, christian and capitalist exceptionalism, and social Darwinism. These quotes reveal Republican beliefs regarding cashocracy, democratic government, communists, Democrats, and liberals. The final chapter contrasts these with the beliefs of liberal democrats.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A former US Marine, teacher, and worker with the Justice Department, Burrell begins by sharing his observations and assessment on the nature of the US Republican Party, Eisenhower's political warfare, the party's fake anti-communism, and its fascist orientation. By far most of the volume, however, is devoted to excerpts from books, newspapers, and magazines with occasional comment documenting his charges. His definition of fascism involves totalitarianism and extreme nationalism, but not the fusion of government and business that characterizes the technical definition used in political science. --BOOK NEWS, Inc.
