Editorial Reviews

1995, Mercury records Japan. Testimony to the massive success (and continued at that) of metal music in Japan, while this death metal classic was released by the well known, but hardly "major" label Metal Blade, domestically, Japan saw one of their biggest labels, Mercury records, release this gem. Out of print since 1997. 15 tracks in total. Catalog: PHCR-1347.

3.0 out of 5 stars More of the same, December 7, 1999

If you like Broken Hope's first two - you'll love this one! Similar to Cannibal Corpse in terms of style. Ryan is an incredible drummer, and vocals don't get much deeper! Check this band out live!

Whoa now where to begin with this. How about the fact that this is probably one of my favorite death metal disc's to date. But for me to completely subside this as my favorite would take a lot more than it's already stealth and brutal performance. For those that do not know Broken Hope were one of the true underground death metal bands of the early 90's. Repulsive Conception was the release that lead them away the more gore ridden and delved into a deep perspective in writing and at a caliber of brutality that only Broken Hope can unleash. This is too hard for me to call my favorite release from Broken Hope, as all of there releases are nothing short of gems. The vocals are still as guttural as ever, the guitars are still haunting and thick chunks vomiting the procreation of what death metal stands for. The drums are fast and blast away to each track. I really enjoy Broken Hope so much, because they definitely know how to play! I love guitar solos, and they include with no problem. This is technical and brutal death metal. Plus it has that 90's feel to it, that newer death/grind bands know nothing about. These guys are true to the music they play, and it damn well shows. I cannot get over the rhythm and melody that each track encompasses, this is great. I am on a whim here, but seriously Broken Hope deserve all respect. I would say the stand out tracks to me are Dilation and Extraction, Erotic Zoophilism, For only the Sick and Pitbull Grin. I also find the acoustic guitar instrumentals that surround the album, a welcoming contribution. A lot of the subject matter in the disc, is a lot of vile stuff, but it also has some substance, something very few other bands really take part of. I personally think each Broken Hope disc is definitely worth owning, but if I had to choose I would pick Swamped in Gore. But don't let that mislead you, this disc is flawless at almost all counts. Oh and it's definitely worth the guest vocals of a pittbull, you will see what I mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old School Death Meets New School... DEATH!, December 17, 2002
This review is from: Repulsive Conception (Audio CD)
The words sick, repulsive, inhumane, and grotesque cannot even begin to describe the content of this release by Chicago's own,
Broken Hope. This band is no frills, no nonsense death metal! There are none of the goth/black influences or dark vibes presented by a lot of today's bands, just splatter-happy carnage delivered by five very sick gentlemen.

If you dig true death metal with no added ingredients, Broken Hope is the band for you and "Repulsive Conception" is one volatile album that is a must have for all metallers!
