Book Description

June 13, 2000
Both public and private organizations spend millions of dollars each year developing requests for proposal (RFPs). Too often, these requests are poorly written, incomplete—and ineffective. The Request for Proposal Handbook is today’s only comprehensive source of information on writing effective RFPs. Updated and greatly expanded to provide current laws, regulations, and examples of effective RFPs, it now also includes two disks to give readers easy access to more than 600 pages of actual reference documents.

5.0 out of 5 stars Focus is public sector - strong on policies & compliance, March 1, 2004
This review is from: The Request for Proposal Handbook: A Sourcebook of Guidelines , Best Practices, Examples, Laws, Regulations, and Checklists from Jurisdictions Throughout the United States and Canada (Spiral-bound)
This book is more suited for following readers:
- RFP writers who have some experience and want to gain more knowledge into the process.
- Small-to-medium businesses that have grown to the point where formal RFP process and procedures are warranted.
- Those who are working in the public sector and wish to incorporate best practices that are unique to that sector.

The author provides a sound process while thoroughly covering terms and conditions, policies and procedures, and compliance considerations. He leads you through the entire RFP life cycle that assures due diligence and obtaining best value for your organization. The book is filled with tips and checklists that will make the development and implementation of a repeatable RFP process easier than starting from scratch. The included reference materials are drawn from state governments, which will be invaluable to anyone working in public sector contracting at the state level.

If you are completely new to writing RFPs, or work in the private sector, I recommend Request for Proposal: A Guide to Effective RFP Development (ASIN 0201775751); however, this book will still be an invaluable resource after you learn the basics. If you are in the target audience I cited above this book will be of immediate value.
