What a journey!,

I've been a fan of Yes for many years, so when I found this CD and it said that Jon Anderson was on it, I adopted it immediately, figuring that it was worth the few bucks just for his contributions. Well, lo and behold - the entire CD is fantastic! Every song is well crafted and the guests were perfect for each one. The piece that's attributed to Jim Morrison is actually recordings of his poetry put to music, which is great. The native american artists are wonderful also. If you can't find anything on this CD to be happy about, then there's definately something wrong with your ears! The two songs that Jon Anderson sings remind me of his days with ABWH. I also found the bit that Martin and Charlie Sheen speak to be beautiful. I finally found a great buy in the cut-out bin!

A word of caution; this disc is a love-it-or-hate-it proposition. Having said that, I loved it. It is difficult to describe. You won't find any "singles" on this program, but you may well find the music staying with you. It creates an ambiance, or mood, but it's not mood music. It's not a 'concept' album, at least I couldn't find any message. It has Native American blood running through it, but it's not a 'message' disc, either. The music takes you somewhere. You almost have to listen to it, and listen to all of it, to know whether it's for you. The pieces are different from each other, but again, there is that mood, that blood, that common thread that you feel throughout. The sum of it is much greater than the individual parts. Perhaps the best recommendation I can give you is to look at the list of performers who wanted to be involved in this, and trust their judgment.

I like it...,

Over the years, when purging discs, I will strongly consider losing it. Today, I am glad that I always choose to keep it. It's very atmospheric and features a somewhat cheesy lineup, but the production is outstanding and the performances are very passionate. Your friends may not 'get it' but it has its time and place. Plus, once, when it was rather new and I lived in San Francisco, I had just heard the part where someone (martin sheen perhaps) says something about the earth shaking...and there was a small quake. This album has power.

I thought this was a phenomenal piece of work by artist such as Simon LeBon,John Taylor,Susannah Hoffs,Toni Childs,John Waite,Johnathan Elias and front man for YES,Jon Anderson.Songs like "Follow In My Footsteps" and I've Not Forgotten You" are very eclectic and stick with you over and over.It had been over 19 years since I heard the album again and have been searching for it everywhere.I went to so many record stores while serving overseas and in the states looking for it but was always told it was out of print.Found it on here, bought it and popped it in and right off the bat, after almost 20 years, still remembered word for word every song.I suggest if your in the mood for something not rushed and very relaxing, pick it up and you won't be disappointed.

A great piece of art!,

Yes, this is art. It is a completely and beautifully put together project using many, many well known musicians that wanted to participate. I'm very glad that they did. Rarely does one come upon something like this. It is not to be looked at as a Jon Anderson or Jim Morrison piece of work. To do so is to make a big mistake. Buy this, listen to it as a whole, let it sink in and you will understand what I mean...and you will be grateful for each participant for making this come out as the piece of art that it is. I rarely say that about such projects, but I'm proud to say it about this one! Good work, people!

Not for those who only like mainstream pop.,
This review is from: Requiem for the Americas (Audio CD)
This is a brilliant album that I bought when it was first released. I have recently gotten it out and added it to my I-Tunes to listen to it again. I have always loved this artistic creative album. There are many reasons to love it. Aside from Simon Le Bon (my reason for the initial purchase), there is Jim Morrison, Grace Jones, Jonathan Elias, Toni Childs, Stewart Copeland and more. My taste in music has always been eclectic, so this album is a real treat. I highly recommend it for someone who is tired of listening to the same recycled commercial stuff that is forced upon the masses.

With out a doubt, one of my favorite albums in my 300+ CD collection. A bit eclectic - ok, maybe more than a bit.

The Whole World Is Coming?,
By Philmosaur (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Requiem for the Americas (Audio CD)
This album is a collection of well known musicians including Jon Anderson (Yes) who sings on two tracks. Unfortunately, one of the songs has two parts and Michael Bolton "sings" part two, which is not indexed for your CD player to skip. Jim Morrison's voice is featured, reading poems similar to his "An American Prayer" (great album!). If you like native American chanting and drumming between tracks of songs and poems sung and read by different performers, you might like this. It is a sincere and respectful tribute to the native Americans. The last words on the album are read by Martin Sheen... "the whole world is coming". I doubt it, and certainly not listening to this. For Anderson completests, you get about 12 minutes of his voice, thus the two star rating.

Meh....,

I bought this for the Simon LeBon tune and Jim Morrison poetry. It's okay. I've listened to it a couple of times, but I doubt it sees many (if any) more trips to the CD player.
