This review is from: Requiem from the Darkness - Pain of the Damned (Vol. 3) (DVD)
Perhaps this isn't the time to write my review since I've already watched the entire series and perhaps my views would be less enthusiastic if I was just working my way though it. But the first DVD whetted my appetite for the others so much that I bought them practically immediately and watched straight through!
No, this one isn't for everyone so, if you like traditional, family-style or even regular "fighting" anime, this probably isn't for you. And, hey, that's okay. Sure, it has its moments of, "Oh, God, that's disgusting!" and it definitely addresses adult topics but it was way milder than, say, Berserk, Basilisk or Elfen Lied. The use of colour and design are truly brilliant and this is on my "keeper" shelf since I know I'll be watching it again (and again). If you lean towards the experimental in your tastes, if you like Satoshi Kon's stuff, if you've seen tons of anime and want something new, give it a shot. |
