4.0 out of 5 stars The Devil in love?
Lucifer, a.k.a. Louis Carvalho, falls in love with Gianna O'Keefe while she sings the Blues at the Grotto.

The Devil is instantly drawn into her world of goodness, mesmerized by her inner beauty, and the lengths she goes to help others. He begins to question his place in eternity and realizes that although he has a certain amount of power, he's not free.

As Gianna...

I'm impressed. This books skims the surface of quite a few important theological questions that have been debated for centuries. Although I realize that this story is merely fiction, Ready's ideas are plausible and consistent in their biblical context. 4.0 out of 5 stars The Devil in love?, November 20, 2002
This review is from: Requiem for the Devil (Paperback)
Lucifer, a.k.a. Louis Carvalho, falls in love with Gianna O'Keefe while she sings the Blues at the Grotto.

The Devil is instantly drawn into her world of goodness, mesmerized by her inner beauty, and the lengths she goes to help others. He begins to question his place in eternity and realizes that although he has a certain amount of power, he's not free.

As Gianna points him to possible salvation, his brothers...Beelzebub, Belial, and Mephistopheles...feel betrayed, and the road to Heaven heats up. Lucifer's life crumbles around him as he defies fate and looks for a way back to Heaven's door.

REQUIUM FOR THE DEVIL is imaginative, humerous, and sensual. Ms. Smith-Ready brings a refreshing newness to the world of fiction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beauty and *The Beast*, October 23, 2005
This review is from: Requiem for the Devil (Paperback)
Let me begin by affirming my anchorings in Buddhism; I am not a Christian, and I don't make a habit of reading books with heavy Christian undertones.

This book was so good, though.

Written from Lucifer's POV, this book takes the reader on a journey through the Devil's second Fall; not falling from Grace, but falling in love with a mortal woman.

It's witty, funny, lusty, and downright painful. And the moral of the story might even make you rethink your definition of "evil"...

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-rending, September 22, 2002
This review is from: Requiem for the Devil (Paperback)
Normally I read horror fiction, but I discovered this to be more of a love story. Although there are many pages of a sexual nature, they are very tastefully handled and fairly necessary to the story. I couldn't put this book down and constantly had to update the family on the goings on (they became as engrossed with this story as I was, but they are not readers). This is the first book where I have cried buckets, in sympathy, for the Devil. I recommend it to anyone who likes thought provoking fiction, as the Devil tries to convince you that God is not all He is cracked up to be. Excellent, can't wait for Jeri's next offering.(refers to ebook format)

I'm impressed. This books skims the surface of quite a few important theological questions that have been debated for centuries. Although I realize that this story is merely fiction, Ready's ideas are plausible and consistent in their biblical context. Despite my own convictions and beliefs, oddly enough, I found myself empathizing with the devil and began to feel sorry for him (as blasphemous as that sounds); to me, this is the mark of a good story-teller. My only criticism is that this book caters to a christian-centric audience, the bible's history is the basis of the story. Still, "god loves seekers", and it is apparent to me from this novel that Ready is a seeker.

this is the first book purchased for Kindle. And I'm writing this review from my Kindle, too. I loved everything about this book. It's much, much more than the paranormal romance that the synopsis made it out to be. There's a healthy dose of theology and philosophy and truly engaging characters. It's beautifully written and I find myself thinking about the book even when I'm not reading it. Completely re-readable.

Utterly moving, amazing, heartfelt, evil, cruel fate, unbelievable ending, unjust, leaves me wanting more......

I never cry while reading books, even at the movies. This book had me in tears and I still had 10 pages to read left. I am not christian nor catholic. No need to believe in God, nor the Devil. But believe in a story that embraces all human emotion and leaves you cold and stunned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does Love Have the Power to Redeem?, June 3, 2007

This book truly is fascinating...what if the Devil fell in love? Not just regular love (if there's any such thing), but "True Love". Could the power of true love redeem someone like the Devil? Would his love be selfish or selfless? All of this (and more) is addressed in "Requiem for the Devil", one of the most remarkable books ever written. Honestly, I actually wept at the ending of this magical book. "Requiem" moved me...and I thank Ms. Smith-Ready for that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love and redemption, August 3, 2007
This review is from: Requiem for the Devil (Paperback)
I can't even express how much I loved this book. I read it after reading Thomas E. Sniegoski's "Fallen" series and was looking for something along similar lines. I love the "fall from grace" and redemption type stories, but I can never seem to find anything that wasn't in some way preachy (i.e. something NOT from the Christen fiction section of the bookstore). When I got my hands on this book, I started reading it and didn't put it down till it was over. This is definitely Milton's Lucifer, the tragic hero. I like that Smith started of her book with the bad guy actually bad and then learning that he actually has the potential for goodness, something he thought he lost long ago. Lucifer was by far the best character, but I love the supporting cast as well, especially Raphael when he appeared. All scenes with him were just priceless.

For those who don't like romance novels, I have to say that this is not a romance novel in the typical sense. It's not one of those books that has a predictably sugary sweet happy ending, rather I would probably call it a bitter sweet one. It's definitely about love, but more than that, it's about how love can bring salvation to anyone. It's a wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crying for the Devil, June 14, 2007

I met Jeri Smith-Ready at my local B&N and was instantly caught in her personable attitude. She told me a bit about both of her books and I bought a copy of each (which she autographed). I'm glad I did. "Requiem" has some great writing in it and while sometimes the characters are a little TOO clever, the storyline kept me interested throughout the entire book. As other reviewers mention, you don't need to be a Christian to appreciate this book. I'm a hard-core Pagan and I loved the story. It really is about love and redemption, not for a higher power, but for oneself.

And, yes, I cried for the Devil.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Requiem for the Devil (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this story, as I have her other book "Eyes of Crow". Jeri Smith-Ready writes in a style that is easy and flowing, and while I wouldn't categorize the books as "page-turners", her style makes you not want to put them down.
