Book Description

“Jared paced, brooded, and once in a while, when his thoughts were particularly tormented, he winced. The color had long left his face as he played back the different scenarios in his mind. Back and forth he paced, so many times that I watched the floor, wondering when he would wear a trail. His inner turmoil could have set the room on fire. It was unbearable to watch, but I couldn't leave him; not when he was planning my death.”

Dreaming of the dead might mean a restless night for anyone, but for Nina Grey it was a warning.

Still healing from her last run-in with Hell, Nina struggles with not only her life as a Brown University student, but also as an intern at Titan Shipping, her father's company. Recurring nightmares about her father's violent death have become a nightly event, but being overwhelmed with guilt from Ryan's unexpected departure to the Armed Forces, and heart ache over Claire being across the ocean to protect him, Nina believes her sleepless nights are the least of her problems—but she's wrong.

Worried about Nina's declining health, Jared must steal back Shax's book for answers. Fighting new enemies, and with the help of new friends, Jared's worst fear comes to fruition. Desperate, he is faced with a choice: Fight Hell alone, or start a war with Heaven.

Requiem is the highly anticipated second installment of the Providence series by breakout author Jamie McGuire. Fans who fell in love with the descriptive prose, delicious suspense, and surprising twists and turns of Providence will not be disappointed as they continue in the journey of star-crossed lovers Jared and Nina.

Review

"Requiem, the 2nd installment in the Providence Series, is another good YA Paranormal Romance series to follow. This second book is action-packed and fast-paced." Amazon reviewer My Name is June

"Requiem, the second installment in the Providence series, is even better than it's predecessor, Providence. Jamie's dedication to research and meticulous attention to detail continue to make her and her books must reads." Amazon reviewer Adguynes

"Jamie McGuire's sequel to Providence does NOT disappoint. It sucks you in from the first page and transports you to Jared and Nina's (and the rest of the Ryels) world. Witty and hilarious dialog that will make you laugh out loud, action that will have you holding your breath, and romance make Requiem a must read. I loved that Claire and Bex played a bigger part this time around. I cannot wait for the 3rd book!" - Amazon reviewer Giselle G.

"Requiem is a great follow up to Providence.I read it in a day. It picks up where Providence left off without missing a beat. There are some twists and turns I never expected to see coming." - Amazon reviewer T

"After reading all of her books Jaime McGuire has been added to a very short list I have of author's who's books I will buy without even reading the description. Anything with her name attached is going to be great. Love her characters and story lines and I can't wait to see what she offers next." Amazon reviewer Jess91

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good read; excellent sequel~! September 17, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
First, I'd like to say that I really like the way McGuire wrapped up the second installment of this trilogy. No cliffhangers, but enough questions that a third book will be welcome. I appreciated the growth I saw in the MC, Nina, and enjoyed her character more in this work. The tension and action were more evenly-paced and deeper characterizations occurred. I also like what direction the story took in regard to Ryan; interesting and satisfying.

Even though this is smack-dab in my preferred genre(paranormal-anything), I was not completely sold on the angle. I just didn't really "believe it." I found their main quest to be anti-climatic and didn't "care" enough. There wasn't near the romantic tension that was present in the first [book] and that was a little deflating for a reader like myself that totally loves the fragility and malleability present in romantic suspense novels. I don't want to "know" how things are going to turn out. I want to "wonder." It makes a happy (and sometimes undefined) ending way-more satisfying for me (just my opinion!). I am mentioning author Tiffany King again because her sub-genre is so close to this book. She gave that exact "angst-factor" in her second book, "Forgotten Souls." Where the reader is left...dying...to read the next installment. Will I read the third book? You bet! I love McGuire! But I'm not dying to read it. I bet you I'll re-read "Beautiful Disaster" again ( McGuire's stand-alone, mature YA) because it had everything: angst, romantic tension, pacing, plot and action. I hope she does more of that sort. There wasn't even a stitch of paranormal in BD and it didn't matter! Terrific writer!

4.0 out of 5 stars My Book Friend (.net) August 4, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Still recovering from her last near death experience, Nina begins to have dreams. Not just any dreams, but almost-real nightmares- the same one, over and over again. Jared, becoming desperate, looks for reasoning behind the dreams. As Nina becomes more and more hopeless, Jared finally results to trying to find answers in Nina's dreams. What he discovers is not only a HUGE step backwards, but life-altering. The only thing that will help Nina is the book- Shax's book.

Like the first, the story was original, and entertaining. I liked this book more than Providence. The story was a bit more developed, but my patience with Nina was growing short. She literally knew nothing until someone told her the straight answer. That was the only thing about her that really bugged me, but the rest was really good! I look forward to the next book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Going Downhill January 1, 2013
By CJ
Format:Kindle Edition
What to say about this one...I don't really have much, nothing really seemed to stay with me about it. There was more college, new nightmares, and the whole steal the book thing. Unfortunately nothing really made that big of a lasting impression. I was hoping to see more character development, but never really got the chance. None of the characters seemed really deep to me which made me care less about their fates. The secondary characters weren't very well done at all. Neither were the villains really. Nina started getting on my nerves a lot in this one and her romance with Jared just became really sappy.

Overall it could have been better.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best.. March 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I never write reviews- I'm only writing this because I feel very strongly about this book.
I LOVED Providence- I wasn't looking for a magical-creatures-abnormal type of book, but it surpassed all of my expectations. However, this book is nowhere near as nice quality.
I can barely understand what's going on, because everything is moving so fast. Already in the middle of the book more than a year has passed in which basically nothing happened that I understood. Characters are returning without being reintroduced. One of the things I usually get annoyed at in sequels is that the authors will reintroduce all of the characters, but here I really missed it.
In short, I feel like she could have explained A LOT more about Jared's world and everything that is happening.
Also, the dialogue is sometimes really weird and unrealistic.

Well let's just say this is a good sequel in the series, which is why I rated it 5. I was a bit disappointed though that there isn't as much romance but the dilemas in this book prevent it. I am hoping that Nigh and Jared get more time together in the next book to make up for that. I don't want to reveal any of the plot, but there is a lot of action, and the pacing is faster as a result. All the quirky and beloved secondary characters are back, there is a lot more Bex in Requiem! Secrets are revealed, and the ending will have you waiting impatiently for the next book...is it 2012 yet? Despite my personal "disappointment" with this book the story is very well written, there are some small editing issues with misplaced words and such but not enough to be a bother. Jamie is a very talented author!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing sequel January 20, 2012
By Ruth
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
So much time passed in the book but not a lot happened, well at least not that we heard about as all the action seemed to happen away from Nina (or the whingey whiner as I have named her) and we were left in the dark with her which was pretty boring. It was a pity we couldn't have went off with Jared or Claire maybe and get in on a bit of the action, hell even Kim would've been more interesting. I feel like the author has missed out on a trick here by not letting us in on all the exciting stuff that was happening and leaving us with the boring business at Titan etc
