Book Description

Angela had a choice: abandon everything for a prophecy that wasn't hers or fight for her people. She chose wrong and died. This is her chance to choose again.

Kail was born with a magical inheritance he knew nothing about, and he suddenly finds himself at the center of a vengeance filled power struggle left over from a war before he was born.

Brought together by a time traveling mage known as the Guardian and with the help from a captain of an experimental airship, they will set about unlocking hidden powers on a journey that takes them across the world and to the edge of time.

The Eternal Gateway trilogy by SB Jones is a fantasy steampunk adventure with time travel elements.

Book one: Requiem, now available.
Book two: Guardian, now available.
Book three: Sentinel, now available.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but not spectacular. January 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A little ingenue, perhaps oriented toward the late-teen demographic.

With the exception of the villain, Mages are in decline, and technology is being evolved at a pace that appears unrealistic. For example, the airships during a 1-year period go from small blimps possessing cannons to 700-men battle platforms with the equivalent of 40mm Gatling guns and cannons with proximity fuzes. And our hero, who has only DNA in his favor, manages to tame and control the munificent powers of a Mage despite lack of any formal training; all other Mages were said to undergo *years* of schooling, but that doesn't appear to be a hindrance for our boy.

You'll find some grammatical / editing mistakes, but nothing that seriously impedes the reading of the book.

The book dragged in spots. While I might order the sequel, it's not on my bucket list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great steampunk fantasy May 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Flying mages, great airships, time travel, gunfights and swordplay, this first novel of the series we meet Kail Kelly, adopted orphan farmboy that everyone seems to want to know in growing empire of Courduff. He discovers that his true last name is that of a famed and missing fighting mage of yesteryear who is his father, and has left his magic potential bound in runes. His fathers enemies become his enemies though, who capture him and try to extract his magic, almost killing him before he is rescued by the exotic and mysterious Angela and her band of magely brigands, including Mr Eleazar, the Guardian of the Eternal Gate.... as they help him learn his magical powers, he comes to realize he is a part of a revolutionary cause, and perhaps the biggest threat to the power of Courduff ...

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but... December 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I had to stop reading because of the grammatical errors. They were substantial enough that my brain kept trying to re-word everything. The flow was harsh, and the story felt choppy because of the grammar. The idea is fairly good, but it is lost in poor choice of words. It desperately needs a good editor.
