First, I'd like to say that I really like the way McGuire wrapped up the second installment of this trilogy. No cliffhangers, but enough questions that a third book will be welcome. I appreciated the growth I saw in the MC, Nina, and enjoyed her character more in this work. The tension and action were more evenly-paced and deeper characterizations occurred. I also like what direction the story took in regard to Ryan; interesting and satisfying.

Even though this is smack-dab in my preferred genre(paranormal-anything), I was not completely sold on the angle. I just didn't really "believe it." I found their main quest to be anti-climatic and didn't "care" enough. There wasn't near the romantic tension that was present in the first [book] and that was a little deflating for a reader like myself that totally loves the fragility and malleability present in romantic suspense novels. I don't want to "know" how things are going to turn out. I want to "wonder." It makes a happy (and sometimes undefined) ending way-more satisfying for me (just my opinion!). I am mentioning author Tiffany King again because her sub-genre is so close to this book. She gave that exact "angst-factor" in her second book, "Forgotten Souls." Where the reader is left...dying...to read the next installment. Will I read the third book? You bet! I love McGuire! But I'm not dying to read it. I bet you I'll re-read "Beautiful Disaster" again ( McGuire's stand-alone, mature YA) because it had everything: angst, romantic tension, pacing, plot and action. I hope she does more of that sort. There wasn't even a stitch of paranormal in BD and it didn't matter! Terrific writer!

This book was even better than the first and that is saying something because I LOVED the first book. I love this author so much, she writes such compelling and exciting stories. The love story was so beautiful in the first book but besides that there wasn't a whole lot to the first book. I liked that in this book you learned a lot more about the angels and demons and that it delved more into Nina's ancestry. I was completely wrapped up in the story instantly just like all her other books and couldn't stand to put it down. My heart was racing from the excitement and action and I really loved the development of the characters especially Jared's siblings. That being said there were a few things I didn't like about the book. The explanation of the dreams at the end didn't really make sense, why would he(Gabe) have made such an obvious dream that seemed to scream at her to get the book when he(Gabe) claims at the end he never wanted her to go get it but that he was trying to warn her not to fulfill the prophecy. I just feel like there should have been a better way for him to tell her that and it never really explained why he didn't. I also didn't like that it never explained how she floated and crawled up the wall. The thing that really bothered me the most though was the hinting at the end to a Claire/Ryan relationship. While I absolutely love both characters and actually think them as a couple are adorable it wasn't quite believable. They keep talking about how Jared and Nina and the fact that she is not only his Taleh but a human is a very unusual/rare romance, so much so that there have only been, what 7 since the beginning of time I think it said?Read more ›

This book was FREAKIN INCREDIBLE!!! I literally could not put it down. The storyline was so perfectly put together, it felt like I was right there with the characters; seeing things as they saw it, feeling it as they felt it. The things Jared said to Nina had me re reading the same lines over and over again; like one line in particular (" I love you more than anything on this earth, I love you more than anything in the universe, I love more than life, I love you more than my own family"....). That line had me head over heels for Jared. Bex was another character who stole my heart in this book. He was so funny, sweet, caring and cocky (in a good way). Claire and Ryan surprised me and so did Kim!! I fell in love with Ryan also even though I wasnt really his biggest fan in first book. The story got extremely intense towards the end that I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation. I found myself goin back a few times in this book bcuz I was just so shocked at times that I had to constantly re read the same thing. I LOVE every single character in this book including Kim's weird a** . Everything and I do mean Everything was unexpected. I love Jamie Mcguire with her wild imagination, now on to book 3. MUST MUST READ PPL!!!

P.S. You will find yourself laughing out loud quite a few times, these characters were seriously hilarious!!!

I highly recommend this book. Jamie Maguire is a great YA author (I just bought another one of her YA Romance book which is also good!).

Requiem, the 2nd installment in the Providence Series, is another good YA Paranormal Romance series to follow. This second book is action-packed and fast-paced. The love triangle between Jared, Nina, and Ryan has evolved and the way the book was written has shown that they are growing up. Ryan has his own way of dealing with the pain of seeing Nina in love with Jared - and it was totally unexpected. And no, he is not gone.

I loved the inclusion of Bex (Jared's little brother) and loved seeing him growing up within the book. It is so exciting how everything ties together in such a smooth flow. This book is a real page turner and once you start, you don't want to put it down until you know what happens next. And the ending (although I predicted it based on the storyline) leaves me wanting more. I can see at least two more books from this series and I wish Jamie the best of luck in crafting the 3rd installment!

FYI - there were some minor minor editing flaws those are forgivable as the plot is sooooo good!
