Book Description

April 30, 1996 3540760067 978-3540760061 1
Within systems development the correct capture of user requirements plays a central role in the construction of effective and flexible systems. Requirements Engineering as a discipline is relatively new, but is increasingly being taught to undergraduates in order to help students to better understand the needs of industry and commerce in the development of effective systems. The author introduces the major concepts and underlying rationale behind requirements engineering, providing a background against which topics such as human and organisational factors and technical and hardware issues are discussed. Written to appeal directly to students, each chapter has clear objectives and contains exercises, practical guides, and case studies all drawn from relevant and topical industrial and commercial research and development projects.

1.0 out of 5 stars Concise and to the point, perhaps to much so..., May 26, 1999

This review is from: Requirements Engineering (Applied Computing) (Paperback)
This book is great for students who wish to gain a general understanding of the topic. If you are looking for detail however, look somewhere else. The use of case studies is useful but in essence this is a summary of important works relevant to the industry. A touch on the pricey side.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the few "soft" books on RE, November 4, 2001

This review is from: Requirements Engineering (Applied Computing) (Paperback)
This book is thoughtful and wide-ranging, covering a number of "soft" requirements engineering techniques. These tend not to be covered well elsewhere. Some example include: client and user-focused requirements analysis, soft systems analysis, quality function deployment, group requirements analysis, etc.
The book suffers from being a little academic in the last couple of chapters, but if you want a good introduction to techniques that you will not find elsewhere, this is it!

1.0 out of 5 stars The Book is basically a 50000 word essay on common sense., May 26, 1999

This review is from: Requirements Engineering (Applied Computing) (Paperback)
It is long winding, never ending, thesis, which is totally non-practical in the real world...get out of being an academic and do some real work.
