In a bind i had to rent this book digitally in order to have it on hand for a trip i was on. However without disclaimer they remove several key sections of the text used by many professors. This digital book is a rip off and a waste of time and money and i regret it completely.

Rented this book for a college freshman English course. Book was well organized and contained more than enough readings and discussion/writing prompts. Unfortunately, this really appears to be more of a worldview textbook than a writing textbook. There were many selections and writing prompts that were geared toward exploring homosexuality, gender issues and same sex marriage. These also also included visual images to prompt thought. When searching the other sections of the same course, most of the faculty actually chose writing and rhetoric textbooks. (that is what one would expect a college composition course to use.) Decided to switch sections since I was seeking (and paying for) a true English composition course. Amazon was great about refunding the rental fee.

I do not recommend getting this text book for Kindle. Whole swaths of text are omitted because they weren't given permission to have them in electronic format and it's nonsense when you realize you need to actually read an assignment for a class. I went the kindle route for a few of my class books hoping to cut back on the number of books I have to lug around and it's been a disappointing experiment so far.

The book itself is really good. The only issue I'm having is that they omit certain sections in the digital version. Now I have to go out of my way to find these sections through other means when I spent the money on this book.

The book was imperative for my English 101 class. It has great essays and critical thinking exercises. I got the book on loan and it was in great condition. The entire process was very simple and effective

Next time try to pack it with bubbles. The book was slightly fold when it arrived. I don't like it since I am buying a brand new item, and I need to book right away which I can't replace it.

A bit contradictive. It says it wants to challenge what we think about things so we can form our own opinions, but it regularly feels like they are throwing their opinions down our throats.

As the title says, I purchased this book for class. While it's not really that much of a good read, any class you might have that requires you to have this book will probably end up being a very good class. I've read some other reviews about how this book is "Unamerican" or any of that bull. It's honestly just a book filled with essays from some pretty smart people talking about how America isn't all you've been told it is. As the title of the book suggests, "Rereading America" would imply that you have been taught all about how America is, but maybe you should red over some history again and see how America really is.
The main points of this book are, The myth of a happy family, The myth of the American dream, The myth of gender, The myth of government, so on and so fourth.

The book itself is boring, but the overall image of the book is very nice. Would recommend outside of a classroom, but not at all a "quiet read at the fireplace" sort of book.

This textbook is a well-organized college-grade textbook with many topics based on current events. However, the book is very one-sided on many issues presented. Many reviewers would complain that the book is too "liberal" and they wouldn't be wrong in my opinion. It would have been preferred to see a more balanced presentation of both sides' arguments. However, that doesn't necessarily take away from the rest of what the book offers. Many good essays, some are great, while some are terrible and out of place for any school textbook. It's not the one I'd have chosen, but if the editors fix these issues, this would be a great textbook for critical thinking and writing, as it's advertised for.
