But when I do, its cause they're awesome, like this one. I bought my current house knowing that the well water was extremely hard and high in rust. The inspector told me that the 5 year old water softener was already on its last legs. After one more year, it took a turn for the worst. My water smelled like Satan farts, tasted like runoff from a sulfur mine, and stained my toilets faster than a big bean burrito with extra hot sauce. Resigned to buying a new softener, I found this product, completely by chance, while doing research online. What the heck, I said, it's only 15 dollars, why not give it a shot. I put 1/2 cup in the brine well and ran the recharge cycle, as the instructions said. Folks...the skies opened up and the soft water gods smiled on me that day. After just one treatment, the smell was gone, water was crisp and clean, my soap suds better than it ever had in the past year. This stuff is the real deal, saved me $500 and a weekend of agrivation in the utility room. Now I rave to random strangers on the street about how they should buy ResCare. If the manufacturers are reading this, you should go out and buy yourselves a beer cause you did a heck of a job on this stuff. Now I put 1/4 cup in every week just to keep it nice. You bet I will be buying more when I run out. Well done!

After purchasing a water conditioner, I soon found out online salespeople leave you to fend for yourself. After a month of following their advise, my unit fouled. After using iron out and citrus acid adding to the brine, I purchased Pro Product RK41N. It brought my water back to better than before. That's another story.
Anyhow, its up to you to obtain all the knowledge about your water quality first, however if things go south, this product will back your unit back. I learned about this product on a short YouTube video. A good source for knowledge.
I recommend this product

UPDATE Jan. 2015: Back in summer 2013, we started looking around for a new water softener. Then we read about this product. Here it is over a year later and the old water softener is back to working just fine--no need to replace. (Knock on wood....)

Original: It looks like our water softener will hold out longer that anticipated--thanks to this resin cleaner. It did not give us immediate results (as some other reviewers claimed), but over a three week period we've noticed a marked improvement in our water hardness. Initially we added the proper amount (1/2 cup) for our 1 cf resin into the brine well. It didn't show much of a change at first, then we added a 1/4 cup weekly after that. Our hardness has come down significantly.

We will buy this product online at Amazon again. We can't find it at any plumbing supply house, large or small hardware store anywhere within a hundred miles of Houston.

We installed a water softener to improve the condition and taste of the water coming out of the artesian well that was drilled the same time our house was built ,4 years ago. Hadn't cleaned the resin bed at all , since. What a difference! The Res Care cleaning solution works great.

The company that installed my water-softener sold out to another company and the new company does not supply this product. The powder form that the new company suggested seemed to not be working as well as this liquid.

I don't normally write reviews but I had to make an exception for this product. Recently my husband and I called out the repair man for our 6yr old Culligan watersoftener because we had no water pressure in our home without bypassing the softener. He came out and replace a couple of parts. The softener needed to regenerate and it would be good as new, he said. Well it wasn't. We were told that the next step would be to replace the resin in the tank which would cost about $400. I did some online research and came across this product as an alternative to resin replacement. After discussing it, we decided to do it. Seriously why not try it, especially if it could save us a great deal of money. We followed the instructions and ran the softener through two regeneration cycles. It worked. We have water pressure back and soft water. My husband is pleased with this product and plans on using it as a routinely to prevent this from happening again

I used this product in two 64,000 gr resin beds over 5 years old in a house with greater than 5 occupants using the water from our well and water sofener. I did each twice. The amount of iron etc. that came out in the rinse was significantly better than with Iron outtt and salt alone.

I believe the resin bed was cleansed from some impurities that I could not significantly remove during a normal ion exchange cleansing with salt and Iron outtt.

I have now returned to only using salt and the resin works much better than before the use of this product.

I will use this again if I notice the resin bed needing an early regeneration or probably at yearly intervals.

There was a taste of the phosphoric acid in the drinking water until the resin had been cleansed with salt only using two additional regeneration cycles. You may want to increase your rinse time on your unit to speed the process.
