When I daughter and her husband bought a new house and it was two story I immediately thought about buying them a fire ladder as a house warming gift. Finding one was harder than I thought it would be. Some of them had to be permently installed, so you would need many of them. Some could only be used once, so you could never have a fire drill with them before you needed them, which was a non-starter. Some looked difficult to use. And then there was the fact that their new house didn't got straight down, so a ladder that would just reach two stories would be too short. This one had everything I was looking for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy ladder - requires lots of practice, November 8, 2010

The kids begged for this - little fire safety buggers they are. But at 4 and 5 years old, they would only climb up the ladder from the ground instead of out the window from the bedroom, lol. I went out the bedroom window and the ladder was fine. Only problem - I have a window on the floor below, so I was real worried about the ladder not having a wall to brace it for a 6 foot section down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fire escape Ladder, July 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this for my daughter who is living in an upper floor apartment. I worry about escape

capabilities, even if there is a carbon monoxide/fire detector in the building. This works to insure

an escape - heavy, but can be stored under a bed for emergencies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hopefully will never need to use..., July 1, 2011

5 stars for a product I haven't tested?

Yes.

We bought the longest one because we live in a midrise.

It seems sturdy enough...

It came in a big box...It was packed, ready to use...the bottom of the ladder at the top with the window/frame anchor at the base of the box.

Definitely keep it in an intuitive location. Also not too heavy to move (box has cutouts to help carry it) if you need to try a different location...
