5.0 out of 5 stars Rescue Ferrets Rock!
We loved this book! I've always enjoyed reading aloud to my children and Rescue Ferrets at Sea was a special treat for me and my two sons (ages six and eight). 3.0 out of 5 stars Strange.... but then this is a Richard Bach book...
I understand that this is the 1st of many in a new series by Richard Bach. I have read all his previous books and this new one is very different. Best I can say is that the 'jury is out' on this one and I will reserve judgement until seeing other in the series. It is a short book, just a couple of hours for an average reader. Nice story, lots of 'feel good' value. Kids...

We loved this book! I've always enjoyed reading aloud to my children and Rescue Ferrets at Sea was a special treat for me and my two sons (ages six and eight). Richard Bach does not "write down" to children -- instead he gives us a richly textured fable for all ages filled with action and adventure as well as strong role models both male and female (and furred and feathered). Mostly I just love a book that I can share with my children that is beautifully written and also holds something of interest for me (any parent who has suffered through some of the "Babysitter Club" genre knows what I'm talking about). I am thrilled that the Ferrets are intended to be a series -- we've already finished Air Ferrets Aloft and can't wait for the next Ferret adventure!

5.0 out of 5 stars ADORABLE and please ignore the idiotic review below this one, January 29, 2003
Ferret lovers - any animal lover - will adore this book. Bach, being a ferret owner, captures ferrets in all their wonderful glory and personifies them as rescuers of shipwrecked animals.

The Coast Guard rescues humans - but what about any animals on board? Why the Rescue Ferrets, of course! It's a wonderful tale that will delight both young and old. I have all three books in the "Ferret Chronicles" and can't wait till he writes the next one.

Very well written, the story moves right along and Bach's attention to detail makes you feel like you're right there in the action. Great job, Mr. Bach :)

PS: ferrets are not vicious and my five have never bitten anyone. However, if the idiot in the prior review ever met mine I wouldn't stop them heh heh

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Ferret Fairy-Tail Series Ever!, August 24, 2002
By A Customer
Richard Bach is a wonderful author. I wish I could write as well as him! The Ferret Chronicles is special, because there aren't many children's books that encourage the reader that a ferret is a wonderful animal. My daughter has two ferrets, and she really enjoys these books. On a scale of one to ten, I'd rate these books eleven!

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't believe how much I loved it., June 25, 2002
My nephew gave me a copy of this book and I thought Yeah Right! I sat down with it and much to my surprise, it grabbed by the collar immediately. It's a simply a great read with lots of action and a satisfying end. I'll never mock my nephew again. But I won't buy him a ferret!

If you are lost at sea, who you gonna call? Rescue Ferrets at Sea
that's who! A great fun book, showing that Ferrets and man can co-exist and rescue all who are in danger. The Ferrets are brave and dedicated to their jobs, an excellent example is set for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars One incredible adventure story, even better in the author's voice, April 26, 2011

To all who love Bach or adventure, I have this advice - read AND listen to this book. Bach is a master storyteller, who weaves magic with his words. I've read this story twice and listened to the audio book, which Bach reads himself. I pick up something new each time and never cease to be entertained and inspired. Thanks, Richard!

This review is from: Rescue Ferrets at Sea (Audio CD)
My husband and I listened Air Ferrets on a long trip recently. We enjoyed it enough for me to order Rescue Ferrets at Sea and Writer Ferrets. They all seem to drag a little in the middle but they come to great conclusions and we enjoyed them very much. Had sent them on to my kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars At sea with the mustelids, January 21, 2010
Bethany Ferret, called Betha-Nikka by her mother, has known since kithood what she wants to be: a member of the Ferret Rescue Service, which works parallel to the human Coast Guard to rescue animals from vessels in peril. Her father was an FRS who drowned while successfully attempting to save two kittens afloat on an ice floe, so her ambition is natural. "You can be anything you want to be, if only you love enough," says her mother, and so Bethany does, becoming first an ensign in the service, then a JG, then full lieutenant. Yet she never forgets the wrecked rescue craft she saw on a reef on her first day on patrol, and she relentlessly bombards her superiors with requests to be allowed to salvage and repair it. Finally they authorize the plan, and Bethany becomes captain of her own vessel. Joined by a loyal crew (including her younger brother Vincent) and a journalist named Chloe who doubles as a member of a popular ferret band, she sets out to save lives--and save them she does, in a thrilling mission to aid a foundering research vessel. But it isn't just lives that are in peril, as Chloe understands: what of the ship's years of findings? They may hold the solution to saving the oceans on which all life depends.

This is the first in Bach's "Ferret Chronicles" (four other volumes follow), and though it seems at first blush to be a kids' book, my library filed it in Adult Fiction, not without reason: the plot isn't complex and there's nothing objectionable in its pages (unless you're opposed to women's, or in this case females', lib), but there are underlying messages that kids may miss unless you're willing to read with them and help them understand what Bach is trying to say. But even if they, or you, just read it as a charming fantasy, it's thoroughly enjoyable and a book no animal lover should miss.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hooray for ferrets!, October 14, 2002
A Kid's Review
This was a really good book that, for once, didn't use ferrets as the "bad guy". I highly recommend reading this book to anyone who loves those frisky animals!

I fear that readers of 'traditional' Bach may be dissapointed by this one.
