5.0 out of 5 stars An easy shortcut in some situations
When I opened the box I was disappointed at how small a roll of tape I had bought.

But when I first found a use for it, I became a believer. This stuff is great to have around.

I have a leaky irrigation hose. I could either make a project of digging it up and replacing it, or I could patch it if I could find a patch method that would work easily...

3.0 out of 5 stars tensile stretch
I like this product. I thought I was buying F4 tape, but bought this by accident. It appears identical to F4 tape, but packaging for F4 came in a zip-lock bag(not sure if it was bulk and then re-packaged or what). But, applying this one was more difficult. It did not stretch as easily. And, on two applications, twice each, it broke before I could finish the wrap weld...

When I opened the box I was disappointed at how small a roll of tape I had bought.

But when I first found a use for it, I became a believer. This stuff is great to have around.

I have a leaky irrigation hose. I could either make a project of digging it up and replacing it, or I could patch it if I could find a patch method that would work easily. A short length of this tape, stretched and wrapped around the hose while it was spraying water, fixed the problem in a couple of minutes instead of a couple of hours. The patch has held up through several days worth of two hours' irrigation daily, and it's looking solid. I'm glad to to have the rest of the roll on hand for the future.

This tape is not a film with separate adhesive; it seems to be a homogeneous stretchy substance that melds to itself. So when you stretch it thin and wrap it around something, the layers fuse together and it becomes like a band around the thing you've wrapped. For shipping and storage, the tape is separated by layers of an ordinary plastic film; that's why the roll you see photographed looks like it has wrinkled edges. The separating film is much wider than the actual rescue tape itself, presumably to keep the rescue tape effectively separated from the next layer of it.

I have now done two emergency repairs with this product preventing expensive emergency (after hours) costs for a plumber to come out. I had a cracked pipe which I simply wrapped with this product and had the plumber come out to replace the pipe four days later (after a long holiday weekend). I have now given this as a gift to several friends, have it at home, work and in my RV. I wouldn't be without it.

This product has more uses than one can imagine. I used it for woodworking glue-ups, firming up hockey gear....oh, I can't list all the applications. It adheres well to most everything, it stretches, it doesn't leave sticky marks like duct tape...just a great product. As the volume picks up I hope the price comes down.

I wish i had known something like this existed ages ago. I have a small crack in the pipe under my kitchen sink and I really didn't feel like having the super come fix it. However, with this tape wrapped around it there is no longer a problem.

It takes a little bit of practice but it will form an extremely tight seal around even an irregularly shaped pipe fitting. it is important to overlap it and to stretch it while applying it so that it will cling to the pipe with some pressure. Once the tape touches itself it fuses together.

I, like the previous reviewer, have given the tape as a gift- to my brother the electrician. I have found an entirely different use for the tape. I have 2 cooking pans (the Rachael Ray pans) and I have wrapped the handles with this tape to extend the silicone grips. Works like a charm and is holding after repeated washings.

Ok, so it won't stop bullets, but you need some in your toolbox. A lot of tape won't adhere in bad conditions (rust, wet, etc) - this stuff adhers to itself like iron, so its not a problem. It is a bit of a specialized repair item (it has to touch itself like around a pipe, tree, etc) but it is really something else when it does. Works when duct tape won't. Like 3m Super 33+ and PC-7, you need some of this. Bulk rolls are available at half the price of the 6 and 10 roll colored sets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silicone Tape - Thanks to our friends at the DoD, January 27, 2011
This review is from: Rescue Tape 1 X 12ft Mclf Fusing Silicone Repair Tape Clear - Rescue Tape RP2567 (Electronics)
I recommend it, but have yet to purchase this item. I'm familiar with silicone tape, it's all pretty much the same, now in so many colors, and (with improved shelf-life, I don't know this yet). Years ago in the Air Force we'd joke the F-4 wouldn't fly without silicone tape. We even called it 'F-4' tape essential to protecting electrical connectors, splices, and other things from leaking fluids or rough handling. That without 'F-4' tape circuits could fail from contamination, other sealing methods were too time consuming or complex.

Comments on usage:

I'm not familiar with the stated shelf-life/longevity of current silicone tape, (when it's no longer able to self-bond). When I used it, self-life (how long before it became trash) was about 2~5 years unopened, and months once opened. I read that shelf life is now over 10-years, I hope it's true.

Using it; with a clean surface, begin wrapping as you pull the tape tight (this compresses the layers together, encouraging molecular bonding), overlap 1/2", and apply as many layers as you need. It makes a nice handle for small connectors/cables, only sticks to itself, and over time fuses together. To take it off you'll need a single-edge razor blade, and be careful not to cut your wires. If it does not easily stick to itself, then it's getting old, and you should consider its suitability for the application. Tying twine or a zip-tie around the end of old silicone tape, after installation, will allow you to make use of what you have. We would often make this step standard practice, just to ensure a repair did not come undone before a permanent bond set-in, especially in harsh environments.

Besides shelf-life, old tape unwrapping, the only other weakness is sharp edges. To protect wires from sharp edges, use nylon grommets or other specialized parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the greatest products EVER, December 23, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased some of this stuff as I had heard claims it worked better than electrical tape and I had some stuff that did not lend itself well to heat-shrink wrap. All I can say is WOW. It does everything claimed. It's incredibly easy to work with and bonds BETTER than heat-shrink wrap. Because it stretches, the 12' roll goes a long way. I am chucking my electrical tape and using this stuff for everything in the future. You wont be sorry you purchased this stuff. I ordered several more rolls...

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Tape on Earth!, December 22, 2010

I purchased Rescue Tape a couple of years ago after reading the description for the product online. I thought it would be great to have in my tool bag on our boat. I ended up using the tape to repair a leak in my holding tank. The product is outstanding! This spring the furnace tech that came out to check our furnace said the fresh air PVC tubing was leaking and needed to be replaced at a cost of $800.00. I wrapped all the joints with Rescue Tape and solved the problem. The furnace tech was impressed.

I have also been told that Rescue Tape can also be used a an emergency fan belt. The product is waterproof and can handle high temperatures. I love this product!
