A bit uneven, but still a more than solid season,

Haunted firefighter Tommy Gavin (Denis Leary) knows about tragedy all too well. He doesn't quite remember what happened at the beach-house at the end of the previous season of FX's Rescue Me, but all he does know is that he is under investigation, while Sheila (Callie Thorne) picks up the pieces. To make things more hectic, Tommy and his estranged wife Janet (Andrea Roth) are taking care of the new baby, that may be Tommy's or may be his late brother's (Dean Winters). Tommy's concerns over the baby's safety come into question as well, which leads to a decision that could forever destroy any repairs made to his marriage with Janet. In the meantime, Chief Reilly (Jack McGee) gets worse news; Sean (Steven Pasquale) starts to grow a pair in regards to his new marriage to Maggie (Tatum O'Neal) and learns a big secret about Probie Mike (Michael Lombardi) in one of the series' funniest and shocking moments; Kenny's (John Scurti) relationship with an ex-nun takes a downward turn; Franco (Daniel Sunjata) has a big decision to make while trying to get back his daughter from Alicia (Susan Sarandon); Tommy's daughter Colleen (Natalie Distler) starts to rebel in a big way; and a new recruit (Larenz Tate) makes an impact on the group. While the drama and character development was high in the fourth season of Rescue Me, there was just something about this season that didn't feel all that compelling compared to what has been done on the series before. Also, there was a bit of an uneven feel with a number of already established characters (particularly Probie Mike), but despite the flaws, the fourth season of Rescue Me is still a more than solid season of the series. The season concludes on a bit of a down note, but seeds have been planted for some big time developments to come. All in all, Rescue Me continues to entertain and even impress, and here's hoping that there's more drama to come from Leary and company.

Awesome Series But Not The Best Season!,

Let me start by saying this is arguably the best drama I have ever seen. That being said, this season did not meet my expectations when compared to the first three seasons. Even so this DVD is a must have for any collection.
The season starts just where last season ended, a fire at Shiela's house. There are a few tremendous ups and downs, but this season just didn't have that punch in the gut that the other three seasons have. Don't get me wrong, I loved every episode and 10 minutes after an episode, I couldn't wait to watch the next. Don't get me wrong, this season is great it is just that Leary and company set the bar so high in the previous seasons, it is almost impossible to achieve.

Just one of the best series on T.V. The mix of comedy and drama is flawless. The action sequences seem very realistic and great detail is taken to show the danger that real fireman face everyday. Sure the storylines are a little out there but what T.V. show is not. And very few have the excellent writing and production as this series. Besides I just love Denis Leary!!

Disappointed.,

I fell in love with this show when I saw the pilot. I've since seen all the seasons and continued to watch all of them over and over while patiently waiting for the fourth season to be released.
Well, I as disappointed. The fourth season is not nearly as interesting as the others. It lacks the creativity the others had, and while the other seasons were emotional, they were still upbeat. This one was just depressing. They had so much to work with and they did nothing with it.

Rescue Me is a natural Leader on Fire!,

It doesn't get any better than Rescue Me when it comes to cable television. It kills us to hear that we may have to wait another year now to view season five, due to the strike! Buy the first season and all the rest, you'll be in for many surprises! The drama and comedy mix is brilliantly done!

Entertaining, But Not As Strong as Prior Seasons,

I found Rescue Me season 4 to be entertaining. I enjoyed watching it and, like prior seasons, often sat at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next (but only at then end of an episode).
However, unlike prior seasons, I found that the story, and to a lesser extent, the acting, was not as strong as prior seasons. I often found seasons 1-3 very compelling, and I could not wait to watch the next show. After several episodes of season 4, I did not mind the break. I wondered how much more crazy stuff could happen to Tommy Gavin. Season four answered that question, not a whole lot.

Down that slippery slope,
This review is from: Rescue Me: The Complete Fourth Season (DVD)
I loved the first season -- sharp, funny, serious and outlandish all at the same time. The second season was a bit uneven, but still quite well done.
Cracks started to appear in the third season. Storylines became uneven, and the plot just lurched from arc to arc. I was hoping that it was just a glitch, and that the 4th season would put things back on the right track. Well, the train went off the rails. Season 4 was a huge disappointment. Edgy comedy has been replaced with soap opera hi-jinks; the writing seems to have come out of a high school drama class at times. So sad to see such a promising show hit the skids.

So disappointing,

After the excellence of the first three seasons, season four is really disappointing. It loses any sense of realism in the characters, they act out of character, plot lines seem to be reworkings of previous plots and the whole thing feels a bit tired and desperate. As is so often the case, it appears they didn't manage to stop while they were winning!

Love Rescue Me,

I love the Rescue Me series. As a fire fighter its a joy to watch because they nail the personality and sense of humor a lot of fire fighters have. They also do a pretty good job of representing fires and using correct terminology. Season 4 is a bit different from the others. Its a bit more dramatic and has less fire related plot lines. Overall I enjoy it, but not as much as the previous seasons.
