5.0 out of 5 stars It's a sample. Not a comprehensive.
This is the best TV show in years. And the soundtrack only has a few songs, so it's not meant to be comprehensive as some people expect it to be. I own and have watched the first two seasons of this show, and don't miss a single episode. If I had handpicked 14 songs from this show to put on a CD, these would be them. They are instrumental in all of the major events...

3.0 out of 5 stars Rescue Me
Rescue Me is a show that knows how to select and use songs to maximum effect. So when I found out they had finally gotten around to releasing a compilation CD I was looking forward to it. There are a few standouts..."C'Mon C'Mon" by The Von Bondies, "Devil" by Stereophonics and "Fell On Bad Days" by Rubyhorse. However, the rest of the selections don't quite manage to add...

They are instrumental in all of the major events that take place on this show. The opening credits song? It's here. The song in the season 3 trailer that everyone asked about? Here. The song everyone wanted that played when Tommy beat the living daylights out of his brother for sleeping with his ex-wife? It's here.

Even if you've never watched the show, this is an excellent collection of passionate, rocking, moving music. You will fall in love with at least one track on this complation and wonder, "Who is that band?"

Cut the criticism, people. Soundtracks aren't meant to be comprehensive, i.e. every song ever played on a TV show. This is a great "best of" soundtrack of one of the best dramas on TV. Ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good selection of songs from one of the best shows on TV, June 27, 2006

I love Rescue Me as well. It's a great show and the music just adds to its awesomeness.

Now a lot of people have said they kept a log and such and such a song is missing, but I think this is a great selection of songs because 1)I can't instantly name every song that's playing, and who it's by to go look it up on iTunes. I can name a few sure but I wouldn't have been able to come up with all the songs that are on this CD. 2)It's a great mix of music by itself.

I also absolutely love the fact that they put The Black Keys on here. They are one of the bands I was able to pick out because I am a huge fan of them and I'm happy about any exposure they get.

I just felt like I should put in my two cents on this one. Like the other five star review said, it's not a comprehensive soundtrack, so calm down. It's a good mix.

I'm normally not an indie rock fan, but I've always been a fan of the music on the show. This soundtrack is awesome--it's eclectic and powerful and I honestly couldn't stop listening to it for over a week in the car.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting, moving, highly recommend, July 26, 2006

Loved the "bits" of songs I heard from the show and was a little hesitant about ordering the soundtrack as most only have a few songs that are good or okay in the whole. This soundtrack, however, is an incredible surprise. Every song is interesting, fresh, and great to listen to. Whomever took the time to pick these songs deserves a huge thumbs-up. Thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Soundtrack!, July 19, 2006
This review is from: Rescue Me (Audio CD)
I bought this for my husband for Father's Day as well as the Von Bondies CD and he absolutely LOVES both CD's!!! It was nice to read the insert and have it written by Denis Leary himself. He gave credit to his son for choosing the Von Bondies song...looks like his son is on the road to a successful career in music just like his dad is in television!

Dennis Leary picked some great tunes, far from the ordinary [...] you hear on the radio day-to-day. If you're bored with the usual, and are open to something better, this is a great CD. It helps if you're a "Rescue Me" fan as well; you can keep in mind what tune goes with which scene from the show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic mix of different bands, themes and sounds, August 11, 2006

Really nothing on this is bad. The best IMHO is Rubyhorse, the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Subways but a case could be made for any of the songs. The only problem is now I have 8 other CDs I need to buy!

I love the show, and the soundtrack is just as good. Like the show, the music is a little dark, but great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rescue ME cd - darn good, August 9, 2006
This review is from: Rescue Me (Audio CD)
Loved it, such a variety. I however do agree with the others when said there were others that should have been included on this disc. But maybe that should come with the second disc.

However, the rest of the selections don't quite manage to add up to the whole I was expecting. This brings us back to editor Leslie Tolan's ability to effectively use the music to punctuate the onscreen images. Without the pictures, most of these songs lose any relatable context and fail to shine in their own right. I was hoping for a homerun of a disc; but what we got was a ground-rule double. Better luck next time.
