My 5 year old got this for her birthday. It worked great for the first 10 minutes in the water. After we took it out and dried it off, it never worked again. I am going to take it back and see what the second one does. When I called MGA entertainment, they said to try a different brand of batteries.

This was the only thing on my daughters christmas list, she opened it and played with it for a few hours, its cute kinda loud with a raa raa raa raa noise everytime it moves its legs. She had to put it in the water Christmas night when she bathed and he pretty much sank head first, so I did what it said let it fill with water to get bouincy, he still sank but now it was on its side..she played with him, head under water and going raa raa raa raa..LOL when we took him out he would not turn off. We pushed the off button on its collar..nothing still putting along...so we took the batterys out and figured we would wait for him to dry. Next day we put batterys back in he starts to raa raa raa raa again..he would not turn off. So took him back to the store (Walmart29.99 31.00 after tax) they only carried it for Christmas...no more in stock or comming in. Hunt this thing down online at Target, as there stores do not have it in stock and pay an extra 10(29.99 +6.98+)2.58 tax to have it shipped. Now I would not have even replaced this if my daughter was not freaking out(she's 5) that she wanted her puppy back But I will say I wont allow this one into the water. I dont recommend it...its seems not very well made. If you are forced to get it, dont put it in the water. Definatly not worth 29.99 or the much higher price people are trying to sell it for online...DONT WAIST YOUR MONEY

I bought this toy in november for my 2 and 3 yr old daughters. They loved it and were anxious to put it in the tub with them. On the floor (before bath) they followed it around had lots of fun. In the tub it was the same, my girls loved it!.

As soon as I dried it off... that was the end of the fun. I changed batteries. I even used lithium batteries. This POS lasted only a few hours.

Dont waste you time and money on this people.

My daughter HAD to have this toy. Unfortunately I didn't read reviews on it until recently, after we had already purchased it. The toy does not swim as advertised and does swim as most people have said- face first into the water. That isn't even the biggest complaint though. What happened to us also seems to be a common issue with others - once it was on, we couldn't get it back off unless we removed the batteries (which is VERY hard to do while the legs are moving). So I finally called the customer service department and they told me to remove the batteries, clean all the metal parts with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol & leave to dry for a full 24 hours. To my surprise, this actually worked! Although it has only been a couple days, we'll see how long it lasts. In summary, I definitely would not buy this again & I would not recommend it either... it caused my daughter & myself a lot of aggravation :(

We were all a little diappointed on the amount of time it takes for this puppy to get started. It's entire head has to be filled with water for it to balance itself to be able to swim. As far as instant gratification goes - there really isn't any. So, the excitement definitely wears off. However, once it gets going, the children do enjoy watching it swim about.

We bought this for our daughter on her 4th Birthday. She LOVES it. It works great on carpet and hard floors. As well as in the water. It swims all around the bath. She plays with it everyday! You do have to dry it well when removing from the water or it will just keep going. Super cute! I am buying more as christmas gifts. Great toy!

My 6yo got this for Xmas and has been a true hit! I definitely only recommend this toy if you have your own swimming pool-- I can't see it being that much fun in a bathtub. We got both the Puppy and the Baby Girl I Can Swim-- the Puppy is much cuter! With his goggles on he tilts his head downward (as if looking underwater)-- without the goggles, his head is above water. SOOOOOO cute!
The sensors are sensitive and the dog must be completely dry before it shuts off--if your child is younger than 5 be prepared to clean it off yourself (a bit of a time consumption).
We let this puppy swim around in our pool & hot tub and has proven to be quite entertainment for my daughter and the adults alike! This is so much better than the Baby that can swim (such a letdown!!).

This toy barely worked for 10 minutes. This was the "Santa" gift for my 3 year old son. This is one of the only toys he wanted. It was very difficult to find. I had to go to several Target stores. I finally got the last one at a Target two towns away. It was a big disappointment and waste of money and time. It kept going in circles on dry land. In the water, the head kept sinking and would not shut off. My son put it out of the tub and gave the dog "time out" because he was not behaving (not working properly). Do not waste your time or money. I returned the "Santa" gift, yesterday.

I guess I should have read the above reviews sooner... My daughter got this for her 5th bday a few days ago and has been playing with it on the floor and has loved it. We were going to save it for the pool in the summer, but she wanted to bring it in the bath with her tonight. As soon as we took it out of the bath, it would not shut off!! We took the batteries out of it and then replaced them and she kept turning on and wouldn't turn off... JUST LIKE ALL THE REVIEWS SAID. I'm hoping we can at least dry it out completely and it will work indoors - but she's VERY sad that it won't be able to swim in the pool with her this summer.

I must say my just newly 4 year old daughter was SOOOO looking forward to this toy as a birthday gift and I must admit, so was I! It came all cute TAPED & TIE TWISTED into it's packaging..I thought, WOW! This thing must be really great if they went through all this TROUBLE! Needless to say, it walks well on the floor but once in the water the poor thing looks like it is DROWNING! It WON'T shut off if it has even the slightest bit of water on it..anywhere! My daughter LOVES puppies, kittens, etc..and loves to be in the tub and we thought this to be a perfect gift. But this thing SCARES her. Once it finally shuts off, it will jump to life once she least expects it. I spend more time in the bathroom trying to turn it off or maneuver it around the tub to get it to act even somewhat like the ad dictates. Sorely advertised and VERY misleading. If it didn't at LEAST walk on the floor I would return or trash it. It is cute though and came with the green goggles and a towel.
