4.0 out of 5 stars Another engaging tale from a solid writer
Suzanne Robinson has been doing steady work for over a decade now. I have failed to enjoy any of her books. It's an lively tale of a spinster, Miss Primrose Victoria Dane, who witnesses a murder done by one of the ton. This review is from: The Rescue (Paperback)
Suzanne Robinson has been doing steady work for over a decade now. I have failed to enjoy any of her books. It's an lively tale of a spinster, Miss Primrose Victoria Dane, who witnesses a murder done by one of the ton. In order to save her life, she leaves her aunts home and goes to the seedy side of London to hide out. Auntie fears for her niece's life and calls on "Nightshade" to find her. Sir Lucas Hawthorne is a former cat burglar, who is trying to arrange a good marriage, but as a favour to a friend he goes back to his roots to rescue Miss Dane. He captures her and spirits her off to his castle for safe keeping. Victoria feels she must pay him back so she agrees to polish the rough edges off Nightshade, so Sir Lucas can be more of the gentleman. But then it is Victoria's turn to rescue Lucas when he is capture by the murder.

It's light reading. I loved banter between Lucan and Victoria. But it was missing fire, passion to keep the reader really involved. So it is a good read, but not long memorable. Robinson get this formula perfected and adds that strong emotional involvement between character and thus readers, watch out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Her best romance to date, January 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Rescue (Mass Market Paperback)
Once upon a time, he was the most successful and notorious thief to roam the slums of London. He was so feared that his name, Nightshade, was never even whispered by the dregs of society for fear he might make an unannounced appearance and turn his wrath on the whisperer. Since he has not been seen in years, most people breath a sigh of relief, praying that he is indeed dead. However, out of nowhere, he returns, demanding that a missing aristocrat, Miss Primrose Dane be found and brought to him.

Primrose, a teacher of poor children, has not returned form one of her frequent jaunts into the slums. Her family hires Nightshade to find her discreetly, so that no scandal ensues. When he finds her, he learns that she is not a dried up spinster and she realizes that he is more than a disreputable felon. An attraction flares up between them, but before they can explore any relationship, they must deal enemies who want them to be an unsolved murder statistic.

Suzanne Robinson, renowned for her meticulous researched historical romances, scribes a document of highest quality with her latest gem, THE RESCUE. Readers will love the hero as he struggles between two worlds and two identities. Primrose is equally enjoyable to visualize as the feisty woman tries to straddle her silver spoon upbringing by entering the world of the slums. Ms. Robinson rescues fans of the sub-genre from the doldrums with her best novel in years.
