JLT At His Best!!,
By
This review is from: Rescue You (Audio CD)
Joe Lynn Turner has sold over 7 million albums, had 4 albums on RCA, been with Deep Purple, Rainbow, Yngwie Malmsteen, toured with Night Ranger, Pat Benetar & Loverboy, sung background vocals for Cher, Michael Bolton, Billy Joel & John Waite but most people do not know him. This CD was his first solo project and it is very good. He is definitely a top 5 AOR male singer. There are no fillers on this CD. Standouts are: Losing You, Rescue You, Soul Searcher & The Race Is On. If you like AOR music or his work in Deep Purple or Rainbow you need this solo project. He still continues to put out quality music after 20 years. Check out his other solo projects for more releases.

Great Cd Finally Back in Print,
By Mike S (Front Royal,Virginia United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rescue You (Audio CD)
Thanks to Wounded Bird Records for finally putting this album out on cd.This an excellent melodic hard rock album from 1985. Joe released this solo cd between his stints as lead singer of Rainbow and Yngwie Malmstein. The hit single from the fall of 1985,ENDLESSLY is an excellent power ballad. Turner had a great backing band on this album featuring Bobby Messano on guitars and bass,Chuck Burgi on drums, and Al Greenwood of Foreigner fame on keyboards.Greenwood also co wrote most of the songs with Turner. This cd was produced by the famous record producer Roy Thomas Baker who has produced Queen,The Cars,Journey,Ron Wood, and many more.

Great 80s Hard Rock!,
By jeffrey343 "jeffrey343" (Plano, TX United States) - See all my reviews

Yeah - another item I can cross off my "great album not on CD" list! I got this shortly after it was released on vinyl many years ago, and I'm glad to see it out on disc.
Since you're reading this particular review, you're certainly familiar with the two Rainbow hits "Stone Cold" and "Street Of Dreams". You also know that Joe Lynn Turner was the lead vocalist on those two songs. This CD has a very similar sound compared to those tunes. I never was a big enough Rainbow fan to buy any of their albums, so I can't compare this to any other Rainbow, nor can I compare it to any other JLT efforts. But I can tell you that this CD is a great representation of the great 80's melodic hard rock genre. It has great vocals, stabbing keyboards, crunchy guitar riffs, and a solid rhythm section. All ten songs are mid- to up-tempo tunes - the closest thing to a ballad would be "Endlessly", and it moves at a decent tempo. "Endlessly" did get played some on MTV when this album was originally released. There's nothing on here I would classify as overly hard rock or heavy metal, just good solid melodic hard rock. No over-the-top guitar heroics either, but good tasty solos. Good songwriting, no silly lyrics. If you like the following, I definitely recommend this CD: Rainbow (at least the two songs mentioned above), Foreigner, Night Ranger, Bon Jovi, Survivor, Sammy Hagar, Eddie Money, Michael Bolton (his first three albums), (and here's some more obscure stuff) Spys, John Parr, Van Stephenson, Van Zant.

I feel I should step in here and defend this cd. Sure, this cd is not Rainbow, Deep Purple, Yngwie ('Odyssey' is my fave JLT cd, along with 'Bent Out Of Shape') or some of JLT's later hard rock efforts, but it should be said that the label was trying to sell JLT as a crossover pop rock artist, and a fine AOR/pop rock album it is. Sure it has the 80's synth sounds and huge drums, because....drum roll.......it was recorded in 1985!
Some of the songs remind me of Foreigner, which I happen to love! JLT sounds fantastic on this cd and the song 'Endlessly' is an amazing pop rock song! On another note, his last 2 releases 'The Usual Suspects' and 'Sunstorm' are both fantastic and, ironically, some of the songwriting is very reminiscent of Rescue You. Regardless of the material, JLT could make the worst album sound good. Those who are reading this are likely here because they are fans of his voice. This is a fantastic AOR record and one that all JLT fans should check out.

I was a college soph in the fall of '85, tough time for metal/rock fans, VH had just called it quits and we had wade through hours of Springsteen, Dire Straits and Talking Heads on the Radio or MTV to hear one Motley of Ratt song, salvation was still about 18 months away in the form of "Appetite for Destruction". Anyway "Rescue Me" was a good, solid, overlooked rock album. It is difficult to believe once upon a time MTV Actually aired JLT Videos But it is true. While we are on the topic of under the radar 80's music, do yourself a favor and hunt for a band called ICON S/T and NIGHT OF THE CRIME. Excellent melodic hard rock, Really good at what they were trying to do. Kind of a blend of Ratt and Skid Row NOTC is one of my favorite records of all-time. My objectivity could be clouded by nostalgia, But listen for yourself

Joe Lynn Turner's first solo release! Not Bad.,

I'm sure most of you know or heard some Rainbow songs. With this album you pretty much get the same deal except that the songs are a bit more mellow than that of the Rainbow lineup with Turner from 1981-1984.If you like good melodic hard rock than this is what you need. Most people who like the 80's will love this.
1.Losing You(8/10)Good opener.Sounds like a cut from Rainbow's Bent out of Shape album! 2.Young Hearts(7/10)Good track with the usual chorus line that screams the 80's sound! 3.Endlessly(10/10)One of the best ballads ever! This song is really great. This is how a love song is done the right way.The guitar sounds really good on this track. 4.Rescue You(5/10)I didn't like this one too much. A bit too much pop and not enough guitar. 5.Feel the Fire(6/10)Not bad.A bit too weak sounding I thought. 6.Get Tough(6/10)the guitars sound better on this track. 7.Eyes of Love(8/10)This song sounds great.Another 80's classic. 8.On the Run(10/10)Sounds like a cut from a Rainbow album once again.I enjoyed this one.Fans of Rainbow will love this one! 9.Soul Searcher(8/10)Good tune this one is. 10.The Race is On(8/10)A good rocker this one is. Overall I say if your just starting out to buy some good 80's albums, then this is a good start. I also Recommend buying Rainbow Bent out of Shape 1983, Straight between the Eyes 1982, and Difficult to Cure 1981.Thee are all so much better than Turner's solo work. Long Live the 80's!

Essential AOR album,
By
This review is from: Rescue You (Audio CD)
Originally released in 1985, Rescue You was the debut solo album from Joe Lynn Turner. The journeyman vocalist recorded this album just after he left Rainbow and before joining Deep Purple and Yngwie Malmsteen's band. Working with Foreigner keyboardist Al Greenwood, Turner delivered one of the best AOR albums the `80s had to offer.
Rescue You is one of those albums that just perfectly captures the mid `80s AOR/melodic rock sound. You could use this album as the soundtrack to almost every movie that came out in the mid `80s. It's wall-to-wall with catchy guitar hooks, incredible melodies, tons of keys and of course Joe Lynn Turner's powerful vocals. It has a great balance of hard rock energy and radio-friendly melodic accessibility, and the songwriting is first-rate. The slower "Endlessly" was the album's big hit, but just about any song on Rescue You could/should have been huge. "Losing You," "Rescue You," "On the Run" - honestly the whole album is AOR perfection. Rescue You is a must-have album for Joe Lynn Turner fans, a must-have for AOR fans, and an album that just about any fan of the `80s melodic rock sound really ought to own. Fans of Journey, Foreigner, Loverboy, April Wine, Aldo Nova and even those early Michael Bolton albums will love this one. And if you like what you hear (you will), be sure to check out Turner's Sunstorm project, which has a very similar sound. Edition Notes: Wounded Bird reissued Rescue You in 2004. It has not been remastered, there is no bonus material, and the liner notes are minimal. It's a bare-bones reissue that's good only that it gets this album back into circulation. If you already had a copy of the Elektra release, there's no need to replace it.

Great album,

This is a cd that I listen to constantly. Great music! If you are a Rainbow fan and like 80s music like Foreigner, this is for you. He's got a great voice and he's one of my two favorite rock vocalists (the other being Lou Gramm. Every single song is good, but the first four are fantastic. This is Joe at his best.

First let me say I am not a die hard JLT fan. Only recently have I started looking at his catalogue and buying his solo albums. I was impressed enough with his solo projects of the last ten years and I know him from Fandango, Rainbow, Deep Purple and Mother's Army, so I decided to check out this album too.
The strong points are the energy in the music and the vocals. As on no other album I have heard, Joe Lynn Turner can really hit the high notes. He does some classic 80s screams along with his usual style of power vocals. Each song is charged with energy, making every effort to show the music world that JLT could put out an album that should have made more people notice. For my taste, however, the album uses too much synthesizer, which is the dominant instrument on the album. It sounds really like 80s power pop rather than a hard rock album like we are used to hearing on almost every other album JLT has done. Also, I find there is little variety on the album. For the most part any song will suffice as an example of JLT's work here. Listening to the whole album I think it makes great background or driving music, but it's not an album that makes me look forward to the next track and the next. You have to realize that this album does sound very different from his other works. But if you are a true fan of Joe Lynn Turner or this style of music then you will appreciate the album.

I have followed Joe Lynn Turner along with his many projects and every one of them is a masterpiece. From his early days in Fandango, Rainbow and Deep Purple Joe has built up a great reputation as one of rock's best singers.
