In the first dozen pages I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book. With lines like "A viselike grip clamped down on his heart like it was no more solid than a damp washcloth" And "He clutched at his thorax and stumbled". My husband asked what your thorax was?! And the many jumps back in time, and then to a time before the jump back in time......

But the more I read the more I couldn't put the book down. I read it in 3 days.

It made me cry several times. It has a powerful message. And it really makes you examine you walk with God and whether it really is as the Word of God says.

I intend to read this book again within 6 months, and perhaps again at intervals to remind myself to examine how I'm walking.

Get this book. It will make you think deeply.

John Bevere is my favorite author, his books will literally change your life. Rescued will absolutely rivet you to the very core of who you are. You will be shocked and frightend as the events unfold. It is so intense, you will begin to evaluate the way you live your life and the choices you make. Everyone must read this fantastic moving novel.

Ok, you take a look at the cover, and you see the hand in the middle of a raging sea. You might even wonder if this is "Hunt For Red October" for Christians. I wouldn't say so, even though there is death, terror, mayhem, and even a submarine involved in this! It is however, a closer look. A closer look at how we live our lives, and why. It a grim reality for those who might screw around with their salvation. It might actually encourage others to take Christ more seriously. And after what The Bible addresses, along with the message this delivers, you'd have to be screwed up not to at least acknowledge what's going on. There is a real Heaven, and there is a real Hell. There is a real Jesus Christ, and there is a real Satan. We're going SOMEPLACE after we die... Heaven or Hell. This also might encourage certain people (who certainly know who they are, I'VE been one at times) who use prayer and scripture as nothing more than a punch line to knock it off. You don't take God's word out of context, because Eternity isn't a game. King me, check mate, you sunk my battleship, that's fine on Earth, but not in regards to Christ, especially after He paid the ultimate price.

But we are taken aboard a ship, along with a father and a son. And what starts out as a thrilling tour, adventure, or whatever you signed up for... it turns into something a lot more serious. Alan Rockaway thinks he is a GREAT pastor. Hey, his congregation thinks he is a great pastor. His 2nd WIFE thinks he is nothing short of a great pastor. His son, Jeff? Well, you'll certainly learn more about Jeff if you choose to pick this up. Alan's first wife, Terri? Well, she prays. And in the midst of all turmoil, Alan's congregation is on the edge of their seats. Will their pastor finally see his great day in glory? They didn't expect that it would be such a short trip. Is this the end, or could it be the beginning? Just shut up, and let the Storyteller do his job. Once you crack this open, you'll WANT to experience the story, and the pages will flip rather quickly.

I was given this as a Christmas present because I enjoy Mark Andrew Olsen. Now I'd like to see what John Bevere has to offer as well. It is said in the end that the words of this were prayed over in light of God's word. After reading it, I believe it! And it wasn't something pushy either. At times it seemed down right simplistic! But stick with it. I can see why the spotlight reviewer wanted to give this 10 stars. This is another chance to examine your own life. And if you see something that needs fixing, then it is up to you. And it is also up to you to trust in God and the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. Work like this deserves a warm embrace, and I'd offer it in a heartbeat!

Here's a pageturning, thriller--a first novel from best-selling author John Bevere with the storytelling magic of Mark Andrew Olsen. It has a strong contemporary story line--and an overt connection to the spiritual dimension that will stir your thinking long after you finish the final pages. It's worth getting and reading--then recommending to others.

I read the book Rescued last year, It was a good Christian tome that made sense. Like many books, i think of the text as an audio theater script

When I read the text I thought of the voices who could play these characters. I could hear the voice of Sean Connery as God, Helen Mirren as Lydia, Nancy Travis as Terri and Dean Jones as Alan in my mind.

Well I got a copy of this audio theater presentation and none of my choice made this audio. John Rhys-Davies (Sliders) brings a larger heart to the voice of God. Touched by an Angel's Roma Downney plays Lydia with the heart of Angel's Monica. Townsend Coleman as Alan seems like the Dean Jones I remember of the Disney films of the 1960's. Then surprise of surprises, Terri was voiced by Nancy Travis...well one out of four aint bad!

The audio theater had the same power of the novel. They captured the book in all its scope and beyond. Now understand this, I enjoy audio theater and this production amazed me. The talent, not just the actors , made this a theater of the mind..and that was great audio theater is all about

John Bevere and Mark Andrew Olson collaborate on this terrifying and intriguing thriller. Pastor Alan Rockaway is the pastor of a mega-church in Denver and we find him at the height of his ministry as the novel begins. Alan and his new wife, Jenny, along with several other couples from church embark on a couples' cruise designed to strengthen marriage relationships. Alan invites his son, Jeff, along to video the entire event for a documentary. Tragedy strikes the group during an off-boat excursion, and Jeff is forced to watch as his father, step-mother, and several church members sink to the bottom of the ocean floor when a yacht strikes their submarine.

Chaos and fear ensue as the trapped victims desperately try to survive until help can come for them. Through this experience Alan and the members of his church must face some spiritual truths that will challenge everything they have ever believed.

This is a good story with an even better message. What does it really mean to be a Christian? Can God be a God of grace and yet still require his followers to live their lives a certain way according to a certain standard? Is it enough just to be a good person and go through the motions in our spiritual lives? Bevere and Olson tackle these questions and the answers are sure to be eye-opening and maybe even shocking to some. This book has great elements of suspense woven throughout, but the message contained within is potentially life-changing. At times the message of the novel seems so challenging and so intense that some may find it hard to read, however I highly recommend this novel for those who are in need of a serious spiritual wake-up call. This book riveted my thinking and changed my life forever. From the beginning to the end, this book kept my attention and challenged my thinking patterns in so many areas. Kudos to John Bevere for writing such a wonderful, well-written book!

My wife and I battled for a week over the book, neither one of us able to put it down until we had both consumed it. We both were left with our mouths gaping wide open and jaws scraping the floor in amazement and bewilderment. This book really makes you re-think the safety of your salvation and where you are at in your relationships as they could change in a blink of an eye.

My wife and I cannot wait until the next book.

This book is amazing. The author kept my attention the entire time....Brilliantly written. I highly recommend this book.

As I read the book, I could relate with many of the characters that were depicted in the story. I also felt a sense that I was actually there experiencing the scenes unfold right along with the characters involved. It was like an action packed movie, with the edge of your seat action which pulled you right in to the story. What got me the most though, was as I got to the judgment seat I began to actually experience it within my heart. For two hours I opened my heart before the Lord, asking Him to forgive me for the complacency that was inside of me and felt such an amazing measure of love and grace after that. This book truly has impacted and changed my life in an amazing way. I recommend it to everyone.
