Disillusioned
Following on the heels of Illusion, indie sensation and New York Times best-selling author J.S. Cooper brings us the second novel in the Swept Away series, a trilogy of dark and sexy romances about a woman marooned on an island with a man who may be her captor.

Book Description

He helps save lives, now he wants to save hers.

Dawn Granger has loved and lost and it’s a road she’s not prepared to travel again - that is until her past turns up and has her questioning her resolve.

Andrew Holmes has sailed the globe numerous times, but when he almost loses his life, he decides he needs to give something back, so he returns home and trains as a paramedic. When he runs into his former sweetheart he is surprised to find an attraction he thought dead come to life. When he sees Dawn’s sadness, he knows he will do anything to make her smile again.

Dawn tries to resist Andrew but their past pulls at her in ways she thought long dead. Can she trust a man who ran out on her once before? Can she risk putting her heart on the line again? Or will it all be taken from her again?

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

"Flockton does a fabulous job of making Dawn's pain real and developing her as a multi-dimensional character. I felt horrible for Dawn, but I didn't pity her. I respected her for coming through such a devastating experience. There's often a fine line between writing a character that annoys readers and a character readers feel for. Flockton does a fabulous job here." --Shana Galen, RITA finalist and author of If You Give a Rake a Ruby

“An extremely emotional and sweet romance that will break your heart, make you cry and make you smile, don’t miss Rescuing Dawn by Nicole Flockton.” --Harlequin Junkie

5.0 out of 5 stars Author to Watch June 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Once in a while, I read a book that takes me on a journey I'm not expecting. It's my own fault. I often don't read back cover blurbs and simply dive in. From the cover of Rescuing Dawn by Nicole Flockton, I knew this was a romance set in the medical arena, but it was also so much more.

Dawn Granger is an ER nurse, who works the lonely night shift. She's been working nights for several years, using the isolation of the odd hours to cut herself off from the world. She suffered a heartbreaking tragedy in her life and is trying to cope as best she can. Flockton does a fabulous job of making Dawn's pain real and developing her as a multi-dimensional character. I felt horrible for Dawn, but I didn't pity her. I respected her for coming through such a devastating experience. There's often a fine line between writing a character that annoys readers and a character readers feel for. Flockton does a fabulous job here.

Andrew Holmes also has enormous respect for Dawn and all she's been through. He's a paramedic who first met Dawn when they were in high school. He left her to sail around the world and the way he unexpectedly called off their romance makes Dawn reluctant to trust Andrew again. But Andrew doesn't give up on Dawn. He's the kind of hero who knows what he wants and goes after it. I love heroes like that, especially when they're selfless and sexy and romantic. Andrew is definitely sigh-worthy.

If you've read Masquerade, you'll be pleased to see brief appearances from Sophie and Alex in this book. It was fun to see their lives continuing, but Flockton also uses them to further the story and, in particular, Dawn's internal conflict.

Rescuing Dawn is a well-written novel populated with richly developed characters and believable conflicts. The unique setting--Perth, Australia--is a treat. I loved learning more about the city of Perth. If you're looking for a great read by an author to watch, check out Rescuing Dawn.

4.0 out of 5 stars An emotional read! July 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
In Rescuing Dawn by Nicole Flockton, Dawn Granger has been living a monotonous life for the past two years since her husband and baby's death. She has kept away from all her family and friends saying that she is okay, but all she does is work, eat andsleep. She has no personal life beyond that, her life as a nurse defines her.

Andrew Holmes used to love to sail, to the point that he left his one true love in order to sail around the world competing. But after an accident where his best friend and another member of the crew died and while he was rescued has made him change his priorities now he is a paramedic and he lives to help save the lives of others.

When Dawn receives a call about a call about a car accident she expects it to be like any other night in the ER, but when she sees the paramedic trying to keep the patient alive she knows her life is about to change again if she doesn't keep tight control. Andrew left her 10 years ago and now he seems to be back, but his search for adrenaline and his call to sail may just take him away from land again and she won't risk her heart again.

When Andrew recognizes Dawn he wants to catch-up with her and see if they have a chance again. In all the time he was away he never forgot her and saw her in every woman that crossed his path, but none ever compared to her. He knows that she married after he left and that her husband and baby died in an accident. But what he doesn't know is what she has been through since then and that is what is keeping her from accepting his offer to catch-up.

Dawn cannot put her heart and herself up to loss or disappointment again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet read! June 23, 2013

Another beautiful romance from Nicole Flockton. This sweet story of renewed love after tragedy is heartwarming and lovely. The relationship between the main characters is one of learning to trust again. The story was nicely written with a slow steady build up and a touch of steam. Just the way I like them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Snore August 22, 2013

I love anything with a medical back story, and I used to devour romance books like this. Now they make me go ewwww. I was barely into this book and he's looking at her chest and remembering where he used to kiss her on the neck. I was done right there. So, granted my review might not be fair, but I just couldn't continue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rescuing Dawn or Taming Andrew it's a bit of both June 25, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Rescuing Dawn provided me with a real life trauma situation. Dawn is an ER nurse who works the night shift. She works nights for a purpose, but for that purpose comes a tragic story. One that includes a drunk driver killing her Husband Tom and her 8 month old son Brody in a car accident.
In a time before marriage there was Andrew. Her College Sweetheart. Andrew was a thrill seeker and after school for him he hit the open seas instead of starting a life with his , Dawn.
Now fast forward 10 years later and we have a new situation. Dawn is the ER nurse on duty when the paramedics bring in a man. It wasn't the injured mam that stole Dawn's breath. It was the man on top of the man trying to do CPR to keep the injured man alive. Welcome home Andrew.
Will Andrew wiggle his way back into Dawn's life just to shatter it once more with his adrenaline fixation?
I highly recommend reading Rescuing Dawn as it made me realize that I too hide myself from life at times!

More About the Author

On my very first school report my teacher said 'Nicole likes to tell her own stories'.

It wasn't until after the birth of my daughter and after having fun on the community board of eharlequin.com that I finally decided to take the plunge and write a book.

I joined the fabulous Romance Writers of Australia and eventually linked up with a great group of girls and we formed "WINKGirls" an invaluable critique group.

The stories I write are contemporary romances with either a medical setting or in the boardrooms of high powered business. I enjoy taking two characters and creating unique situations for them.

Apart from writing I'm busy looking after my very own hero - my wonderfully supportive husband, and my two fabulous kids. I also enjoy watching any and all sports and, of course, reading.
