Donald McBurney and co-author Theresa White bring years of dedicated scholarship, research, and teaching experience to RESEARCH METHODS. This concise text puts psychological research into a larger scientific context, to show students how psychology fits into a scientific approach to understanding the world. The authors cover all stages of the research process using a step-by-step approach, from project selection, literature search and research protocol selection to publication processes. Utilizing a wide variety of problems that have been selected from psychological literature, McBurney and White successfully convey the excitement and creativity of designing and conducting research.

5.0 out of 5 stars Need the 8th edition but are strapped for cash?, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Research Methods, 7th Edition (Hardcover)
There something wonderful about past editions. Small changes between texts. Often the chapters and content will remain the same with only minor changes to the examples given in the book.
The book that I would have purchased at the bookstore would likely have been $100+, but I purchased this from Amazon for a mere $11. That impresses me. What impresses me more is the Research Methods lecture doesn't deviate from the 7th edition text. I saved upwards of $85 and get the exact same result as other students. If this is a new concept to some of you college students take advantage of your new knowledge. However, I have to caution you: some classes require the new text because of the constant change within the field. Remember that. What's true in Speech-Language Pathology this year may be altered next year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent text book, January 12, 2009

This review is from: Research Methods, 7th Edition (Hardcover)
This book is one of the easier reads as far as text books goes. It doesn't use any overly complicated knowledge, and is readable even though the subject matter is kind of boring.

However, as the previous rater indicated, I have issues with the price of this textbook in general (not just Amazon). There's no way this textbook should be worth over $100, let alone close to $100. It's just not that high quality of a book. Save yourself some money and buy the international version of the book. The only thing different is the cover, and it is paperback. The contents are the exact same. You can get it for 1/2 or 1/3 the price of the US version. Just search "Research methods mcburney" in Amazon and it'll be somewhere near the top, white cover with orange in the middle. It's what I did when I needed it, and saved a ton of money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Expensive, August 15, 2006
This review is from: Research Methods, 7th Edition (Hardcover)
I can get this book for $86.00 at my campus book-store. Students shop Amazon to save money... between the additional $4.00 plus shipping (minimum), I'd rather pay the price on campus.
