1.0 out of 5 stars Find another book
This book was assigned to me in the paralegal program I am enrolled. After I completed the course, the teacher told me that after she assigned this book had found much better books and would not use this book in the future. The teacher told me that Ms. Bouchoux's book was too general, very dated, difficult to use in a course and bottom line was not that helpful.

This is one of the best textbooks I have ever read - I savored every word! Trust me, you should buy it.

It discusses the federal and state court systems; statutory law; case law; digests; A.L.R.; legal encyclopedias, periodicals, treatises, and restatements; proper Bluebook and ALWD citation; Shepardizing (an enitre chapter); how to use both Lexis and Westlaw; and useful instructions on how to write legal correspondence, legal memorandums, and briefs.

I have a BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley and am currently enrolled in the ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate program at San Francisco State.

This book was assigned for my Legal Research & Writing class, but it explained the basic principles of the state and federal court systems much better than the textbook that was assigned for my Intro to Law/Civil Procedure class.

The professor who assigned the book also teaches at a well-known law school and told our class that she wishes that she could assign it there as well, but is not the key decision maker.

I am a writer, so I assumed that the chapters on legal writing were going to be boring and I planned to skip them. To my surprise, I learned a lot.

I spent the whole day today in a law library working on a homework assignment. I keep thinking to myself how grateful I was to the author for writing this book because it helped me tremendously with the assignment. I am going to research how I can contact her to thank her!!!

If you are planning to attend Paralegal or Law school I recommend that you read this book to help prepare yourself. It covers all of the basics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Legal Research and Writing for Paralegals, October 17, 2000
By A Customer
I am currently a paralegal major at a community college in Maryland. This was not the book assigned for my legal research or legal writing classes, but I borrowed the book for the purpose of a research paper for English class. I found the book to be extremely helpful in my research process and I will purchase a copy for myself. Ms. Bouchoux is very thorough in illustrating the process involved in researching and writing clear and effect legal documents. I recommend to anyone studying to be a paralegal and/or attorney to purchase this book to use a reference guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent New Edition, February 2, 2004
This book is excellent and does not resemble the reviews for previous editions. I'm just getting into it, but questioned my professor for requiring it, until I read a few chapters and browsed through it and found it to be adequate, and more. The writing is clear and substantial and makes for easy and significant study.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, June 6, 2011

This review is from: Legal Research and Writing for Paralegals (Paperback)
This book has been very helpful in my Paralegal courses. It is easy to understand and well written, but it is a bit repetitive and long-winded sometimes. Overall good book, just wish it had been less expensive.

Well organized and easy to read. I'd recommend Bouchoux's text for those who wish an overview of legal research sufficient for paralegals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, February 4, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Legal Research and Writing for Paralegals (Paperback)
This is a great book. There's nothing that it doesn't cover and the examples are excellent. There may be better books, but I don't know of any. The chapters could be in a different order, and that may may make book better, but that would depend on your professor and the order in which he wants you to learn the different ways to do legal research. I realize that this is a very general review and more specific reviews are very helpful. However, I don't think you go wrong if you get this look to do legal research, and you can always send it back. My only regret, is that I didn't get the hardcover. For me, the soft cover/paperback is very unwieldy, and while the soft cover may be cheaper, I would prefer the hardcover. This is especially true if you are just carrying it in your hand.

2.0 out of 5 stars Almost impossible to read, January 27, 2004

It is almost impossible to stay awake reading this book. The prose is extremely dry and long-winded. I've had much better luck with online legal research tutorials; because of the nature of the Web, the information is much more concise and readable.

3.0 out of 5 stars The shape was "ok-ish", not "good"., April 10, 2011

This review is from: Legal Research and Writing for Paralegals (Paperback)
Cup stains on the pages, highlighter marks here and there, the cover page bended slightly. It's ok for the price; but it's definitely not in a "GOOD" shape.

Book was still in its original wrapping and was in excellent condition. I could not have been more satisfied as it was received very soon after the order was placed.
