Seriously funny,
By
This review is from: Reservoir Dogs: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I did feel a bit gypped when I paid the regular price for this half-hour CD, but for anyone who saw the movie and even moderately enjoyed it, it's a must-buy. With the dialogue included, it can even function as a kind of poor man's DVD.
One star for Little Green Bag. I never realized how good this song was until I heard it in full. One star for Blue Swede's Hooked on a Feeling, which, although it only plays for a second in the movie, is a great song. One star for the way Steve Wright pronounces 'Bohemiath.' It's worth buying it just for this. I'm serious. One star for the Madonna Speech, and Lawrence Tierney muttering: "Chu...Toby Chu?" One star for the way Steve Wright says: "...and Edison Lighthouse's...Love Grows...Where My Rosemary Goes." The Coconut song and Stuck in the Middle With You are also great. The only thing I missed was any part of the dialogue which begins with Steve Buscemi saying: "How come _I_ gotta be Mister Pink?"

A funky, good mix,

Same goes for Reservoir Dogs as with Pulp Fiction--if you liked the movie, chances are, you'll enjoy the soundtrack. There are a few dialogue choices I would have added from the movie (such as why Mr. Pink doesn't tip, and why he has to be Mr. Pink anyway) that would have made it even better, but the Madonna speech and "Let's Get a Taco" added some sick humor to the mix. I, for one, will never be able to listen to "Like a Virgin" without thinking of Mr. Brown's interpretation of its meaning... It's an eclectic mix on this soundtrack, but that seems to be the norm for a Tarantino film. From honky-tonk country ("Fool for Love"), to funk ("I Gotcha"), to just some fun-loving '70s ("Stuck in the Middle With You"), the songs on here wouldn't normally be ones you'd find together on an album, but seem to work well here, as they did in the movie. Most songs on the album were in pivotal parts of the movie as well. It might not be a soundtrack I'd buy if I hadn't seen the movie, but this one compliments its film very well. Steven Wright's monotone DJ excerpts make a good lead in to some of the songs, but more film dialogue would have been preferable. A recommended buy for those who enjoyed the film.

GREAT...with a few problems,

I loved the movie, so I decided I had to get the soundtrack. When I first saw the CD I was suprised at how few songs there were, and that is one of its flaws(the running time is just over 30 min.); its other flaw is Magic Carpet Ride: great song, terrible rendition. Too bad the Stephenwolf version couldn't of been on the CD. Anyway, I give it 4 stars due to how excellent the majority of the songs are, but I slightly recommend the Pulp Fiction soundtrack which has zero flaws. Still its good, but short.

Fun Songs for a Fun Movie,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Reservoir Dogs: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I love the seventies songs on this CD. The mix is great, and I love remembering how they fit so well with the movie. Such a great movie. The opening song, "Little Green Bag" is probably my favorite for the great beat and groovy tune. Thanks to that adiquate torture seen, I don't think I'll EVER forget "Stuck in the Middle with You." The "Coconut" song is a little weird, but nice. The rest were pretty good too. The dialogues were the best possible moments they could have picked. The Madonna speech had me laughing in fits.A lot of people complain that the CD is too short. It is. Really. But that still doesn't detract from the quality. I can't stop loving this CD, thus the five stars I feel it deserves. Short, but very sweet.

"Reservoir Dogs" is one of the most creative and stylish movies ever put to screen. Quentin Tarantino's crime film features "Super Sounds of the Seventies" music which appears on the fantastic soundtrack album along with Steven Wright's narration of the songs. Also included is Harvey Kietel's classic monologue about how to rob a jewelry store. Let's also not forget "Stuck in the Middle With You" which I'll never be able to listen to the same way again after seeing the movie. It's the ultimate souvenier from this classic crime caper. This album is not to be missed by anyone who liked the movie. If you didn't see the movie yet get offline right now and go rent it and then buy the soundtrack. You'll thank me for it.

clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right,

If there's one thing I must give Quentin Tarantino high marks for is putting together some amazing soundtracks that both make for great listening and complement the film. After I'd first seen "Reservoir Dogs" (far later than every other decent movie-loving person on the planet), it struck me as being a good film with the potential to be truly great after several more viewings. I already knew it was going to become one of my top favorite movies of all time. But what gave it that special kick -- besides the simple but tight plot, the incredible actors, and the love of my life Steve Buscemi (did I just type that out loud...?) -- was the music. And even before I learned to fully appreciate the movie, I wanted -- no, *needed* -- the soundtrack. The songs weren't extraneous or inappropriate, but they effectively punctuated, underlined, and italicized certain scenes and made them even more memorable and meaningful than they would've been without the aural enhancements. As opposed to just random musical sounds laid over a scene, they actually fit in and occasionally lent some commentary if you think about it.
I can listen to this soundtrack over and over (much like the "Pulp Fiction" soundtrack) and it's almost like reliving another layer of the movie. It also has the eclecticism of a free-form radio show, thanks to Steven Wright's "DJ"-ing. Okay, so this CD short. Okay, so some of the songs have been played to death already (did anybody catch the stupid Coke commercials that totally ruined the "Coconut" song? Feh...). It still works as a whole, film dialogue and DJ bits included.

"Looken for some happieness, but there is only lonilyness to be found" that is one of the lyrics to a song on the greatest soundtracks in history. This soundtrack is like no other. It contains some of the greatest hit ever such as Little Green Bag, Stuck in the Middle with You, Coconut, and I Gotcha. Not to mention a lot of lyrics from a great comedian, but from the movie itself. If you have seen the movie then the soundtrack will no doubt blow you away. If you haven't seen the movie it will still blow you away you just won't be able to remember what excellent scenes occured when the song played in the movie. So all I have left to say is the lyrics were wrong, happiness can be found right here on this CD. END

Well, I at least like the Coconut song...,

This soundtrack has the one thing that MAKES a soundtrack, and that is dialogue excerpts. With the clips from the movie interwoven with the great music and the monotone comments from Steven Wright's DJing, this is a winner all the way around. Sure to be enjoyable for everyone, even the kiddies!

Reservior Dogs Soundtrack is unique,
By Bill Strausbaugh (Kansas City, Kansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Reservoir Dogs: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
The soundtrack from the movie "Reservior Dogs" is a unique one but probably one that only fans of the movie will really appreciate. I found only two songs off the whole CD to be lousy and they're both by the same group, Bedlam. They must have been friends of Tarantino's because in my opinion they lack good musical talent. The two songs that get you're blood pumping the most are "Little Green Bag" by the George Baker Selection and "I Gotcha" by Joe Tex. I don't know much about either of these two artists but after hearing these songs I'd like to find out more. Of the dialouge excerpts the one that is best is "Let's Get A Taco", where Harvey Kietel's Mr. White explains to Tim Roth's Mr. Orange what to do if the manager of the diamond store won't give them the diamonds. Even if you haven't seen the movie it's still pretty damn funny.

uga shaka,
This review is from: Reservoir Dogs: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
this cd is great for anyone that is nostalgic for a movie that they likely own. these songs are great for the first couple listens, but then ... eh. Dont get me wrong, there are a couple tracks that you can listen to repeatedly, but most of them you will burn out on within a couple listens. But lets face it, if these songs were not in the movie, you would not give two #%&!@ about them.
And now for the song hooked on a feeling. this is the most disjointed song, it sounds as if two seperate things, a mediocre song and an idiot doing african tribal impressions, were combined into one big ol' turd of a song. the original version that contained sitar was not very good, the version on this cd is so much worse. No one actually likes this song, they just think they do because Quinten (spelling?) Tarrantino likes it. This song is completely immpossible to listen to and enjoy because it is so disjointed. If you disagree with me and you like this song than you are no longer entitled to give your opinion on music to the world at all. |
