5.0 out of 5 stars Shocker, September 10, 2007
This review is from: Reside (Audio CD)
I love this record.

It's the best, most fully realized 'reunion' album among any of the 'reunion' albums this or that reformed band from 20yrs ago may have made. Bands like Wire and Mission of Burma have made fine records in recent years, but I like this one best.

They didn't try to change anything that made the band great in the first place. And yet they didn't try to relive the past. It's just the Effigies, reinvigorated and making new music together, same old way only different.

Their best since For Ever Grounded.

"RESIDE" captures all of the "Chicago Punk Sound", as well as it has ever been. "Reside" is an album for those of us who remember a day when lyrics matter, and combined with strong musical notes, makes for an EXCELLENT CD. Purchase "RESIDE" and remember the days in the mosh pit at the "old" (wells street) or "new" (north ave.) EXIT. The band is older and wiser than in the past, and as with fine wine, the band has only gotten better with age. So go grab a PBR and put on a pair of old "Doc's" and give "RESIDE" a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome back Effigies!, August 4, 2007

I'll start by saying this is not an unbiased review, I've been a fan of The Effigies since the mid 80's.

The new album reside doesn't dissapoint, several of the songs strike a reminiscent chord of days gone by, but that is exactly what I was looking for. I also hope there is more to come.

Reside is a worthy purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite records period, April 9, 2009

This really suprised me. I expected a stale pastiche of old ideas and maybe a hip hop song for the kids, what I got was thobbing maddeningly tuneful freightrain music, my favorite! Hazmat is one of my top , oh, I don't know, whats in a number, it's one of my top songs, I can listen to it for an hour. It's funny, almost every song starts and I go, Oh, I don't like this one, then the hook digs in and I'm sold. I saw them at Maxwells last summer and the were just as good as ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid release that doesn't disappoint!, December 31, 2007
This review is from: Reside (Audio CD)
I've reluctantly grown accustomed to sub-par releases from bands that have "reunited", however, 'Reside' is an impressive surprise. The guitars and drums are as tight as ever, and the vocals have solidly surpassed the test of time.

I hope this is a sign of things to come by this over-looked and under-appreciated band.

If you like any of the earlier releases by The Effigies, buy 'Reside' NOW; you won't be disappointed!

I'm a fan of the Chicago punk rock scene in the 1980's( Naked Raygun, Big Black, The Effigies, etc... ) and this album is a testament to that era.....Very sound punk/alternative rock album...........
